Killer Elite was pretty good. Action packed, good cast (Robert De Niro, Jason Statham), and a good plot. 🖖

That's a remake?

Yeah, 1975  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073240/

I didn't know it was a remake. Was it as good as the original?

Actually, reading the plot sketch, it doesn't sound like the same plot.

It's not a remake. Wikipedia says both movies are based on different novels.

I haven't seen either, that's why I asked.

Currently watching ´old´.
Heard from some that it was proof that m. Night shamalan still had it.

The premise is interesting, but it is from the book it is based on.

The acting from most of the crew is pretty good. Especially the young adults playing children. And I guess m. Night has a hand in that.

But I am not impressed by the dialogue, nor the cinematography.
The first ´reveal´ of what is going on, on the Beach, with the older kids was laughable.

I don´t know, maybe I am undeservably harsh on m. Night.

Guess that it also doesn´t help that I didn´t really feel like watching this one.

The gf is in a halloween horror mood and has been wanting to watch a great many of the Flicks they put out on tv.
I don´t mind horror, but once a week is more than enough. I wouldn´t want to watch Romcoms every other day either.

Anyway, just turned it off as I was typing this. The gf fell asleep on the couch.
Ringing endorsement, I know.

That movie was really bad.  And the "twist" is equally bad.

I still don't even know why it's secret.  Cause I guarantee you, lots of people would volunteer.

And I've noticed a bunch of movies which are overly harshly critical of laboratory experimentation in general and also consequentialism.  You can't throw a stone in scifi or post-apocalyptic movies without seeing this refrain time and time again.  And to be honest, it kind of irritates me.  It almost has an air of anti-intellectualism, which I'm not entirely sure was unintended.

In short: let's have more hero scientists in fiction than villain scientists, please?

Yeah, less Lex Luthor and more David Banner! 😎

Tonight, I watched Demolition Man for the first time because apparently it's really nostalgic for a lot of people and it just hit its 30-year-anniversary.

It's...okay.  Some things aged better than others... *smashcut to the villain doing a "ching chong" impression when he sees some people wearing paddy hats*

Plot and themewise this movie is a worse version of Judge Dredd (1995) - which also features Stallone and Rob Schneider so I don't think I missed much by watching that instead.

The future setting has basically no internal logic and falls apart when you think about it for even a second (every restaurant is a Pizza Hut, really?)

Sandra Bullock is an absolute delight and aside from suddenly being really, really good at violence and surprisingly okay with getting batoned by her partner, her character is pretty funny, charming, and makes sense in the world.  Also, she's the most developed character out of everyone in that movie.

Wesley Snipes is pretty entertaining in a villain role but I didn't really buy him as a legitimate threat.  He mostly seems to laugh until he gets beat, which is kind of lame.  Also, like half the attacks made against him seem to hit and do real damage, which is unusual for a villain.  He gets beat up pretty severely in almost every encounter.  You could throw a pillow at him and there's a good chance he'd slip on it and fall down.  I haven't seen a villain take so much damage since Home Alone.

But the Schwarzenegger library joke was so close to being prophetic that it's actually kind of nuts.

Pizza Hut? Are you in Europe? Because it's Taco Bell and that's kind of the joke. No one expects either franchise to win an all-out franchise war.

Hydra009

The one I watched said Pizza Hut lol.  I didn't realize that there were multiple versions.  Seems like a lot of effort for a not-great joke.

I saw that movie so long ago that I don't remember what fast food franchise was depicted, but I don't much care to watch it again in any case. It was a bit amusing, but that's about it. 🙄

So, we finished ´old´.

It did not get much better, for my part.

Gf didn´t mind, but doesn´t think it is great either.

I just finished watching another Jackie Chan movie, called The Medallion. Of course it was very good, what Jackie Chan movie isn't? This one also had John Rhys-Davies, who's been in a bunch of good movies, like Raiders of the Lost Ark.
