Quote from: "The Skeletal Atheist"Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the "straight" guys who come just to say they're not gay (but totally accepting) are also welcome. :P

I'm not gay but am totally accepting!

SA, if I had dangly bits I would never leave the house.
A cynical habit of thought and speech, a readiness to criticise work which the critic himself never tries to perform, an intellectual aloofness which will not accept contact with life’s realities â€" all these are marks, not as the possessor would fain to think, of superiority but of weakness. -TR

I've tried.  I can imagine it.  It just doesn't do anything for me.  I did this as a way of searching my subconscious to see if there might be some gay in me, possibly something repressed from my early training.  I think I'm pretty good at understanding myself, but I suppose everyone says that, even complete boobs.

I've heard that everyone lies somewhere on a scale of 1 to 10.  If this is true, then in theory, everyone should be able to detect at least something.  Just because it might be there doesn't mean that everyone will find it, however.  I think the psychological definition of homophobia describes the condition where it's there, probably very strong, but repressed.

I read in psychology that this can lead to "homosexual panic", where it bubbles up to the surface and scares the shit out of someone in denial.  It often leads to violence when a homophobe ends up attacking a suspected homosexual to whom he feels attracted.  I suppose the attack is a way of hiding the inner feeling from oneself.

This has caused me to wonder about people, and I've know several, who insist that homosexuality is an aberrant choice.  I'll guess (and it's only a guess) that such people are often repressed bisexuals who COULD actually choose and think it must be the same for everyone.

This is only speculation on my part.  As a theory, it might be seriously flawed, but I think a lot about human nature, and don't always discuss it, so I thought I'd throw it out here, where I might get more reliable feedback.

That's actually a really interesting line of thought.

(Also if this topic is a place for gay, bi, and supporters of gay people... wouldn't that just basically bring in everyone on this forum? I would at least hope it does.)

Well, I think it would bring in everyone on this forum, but even if everyone here supports gays, I tend to assume this forum is a better place to get a reasoned discussion.  Well, at least compared to a bar or some fundamentalist church.

I have a Ba'hi acquaintance who is horrified by homosexuality and said to me once, "The reason you support gay rights is because you don't believe in god."  Now that might have something to do with his perspective, but he misses mine completely.  For him, it's all about whatever he assumes God has to say on the subject and ignores fairness, equality, and human rights issues.  He can ignore those things because he hasn't reasoned much.  It's strictly an emotional issue that he justifies with his religion.  That's why I wouldn't advance such a speculation outside of this forum.  I'd just be getting a lot of illogical responses and emotional reactions.

Hey!  There's nothing wrong with my dog!  He's nothing like Raj's dog Cinnamon (a female Yorkshire Terrier).  Denver is a Tibetan Spaniel, and quite possibly the most awesome dog a heterosexual man could ever meet!

You TRIED fantasizing gay? What did you do exactly? This oughta be interesting. Please don't tell us it involved a 2 foot cucumber and a hamster and an empty toilet paper roll.

When in the Navy, a fellow who had been in for a bit and had made a patrol (my second boat, the George C. Marshall) was discovered engaged in a homosexual act. He was, to put it mildly, drummed out of the service. Turns out he was an Air Force veteran, honorably discharged, who had joined the Navy, a la The Village People (now you know where the song comes from  :-D ) apparently because men in uniform was his thing.

But, confronted with the thought, and having already spent three patrols enjoying the company of many naked men on many occasions, I thought about whether any of that was in any way a turn on. No. I can say therefore with some assurance there ain't no gay in me.

This is also why I direct gay people to the Air Force. This chap spent 4 years there and was never discovered, this during the 60's.

Everybody does. Girl on girl is never a bad thing. I grew up in polygamous Utah. I can assure you that one man cannot satisfy a dozen wives nightly. I guarantee there is some girl on girl going on when the old boy is out plowing the field. There's a movie idea for ya.   =D>
