I'm hearing a few stories of Trump supporters abandoning him, but where I live, there is not one Harris yard sign that I've seen, while MAGA Trump signs are a blight on the landscape.

On the bus the other day I noticed a plethora of Trump signs in one particular spot, but other than that I've seen none. But I live in Marin County, Ca., where such things aren't to be expected.

Quote from: ferdmonger on September 25, 2024, 07:32:59 PMMy sister voted for Trump the first time. She's done with that.  In fact, she cited the "I am the chosen one" (with an actual wave of her hand) comment to really turn her off from the guy.

To be honest, that's a really shallow reason to turn on him, and shows she hasn't really learned her lesson. It wasn't his policies? His attempts to overturn the election? The road map his employees wrote up for him to usurp all control for himself and the Republican Party? The multiple crimes he's been convicted with?

It's just he rubs her the wrong way now? That he has illusions of grandeur? Anyone who's ever heard him speak would know that.

This is tough to articulate, but many Republicans are pretty desensitized to a lot of horrific effects of their policy positions as well as a lot of personal faults of the people they support but brazen impiety is still very noticeable.  I know it doesn't sound very logical and reflects weird priorities, but that's how people are in chur...at the voting booth.

A relative who voted for Trump twice before has decided to sit this one out.  Apparently, the Arlington Cemetery thing infuriated him.  He has had loved ones in the military and so that hit him hard.

There's a red line with everyone, even redcaps.  You gotta dig deep to find it sometimes, but it's there.

Like I said before, Trump doesn't have more supporters today than he did in 2020 or 2016.  We'll just have to see if that's enough.

I read the occasional story of Trump losing support from someone or another. But I don't know if these articles tell us anything. It may be that they are newsworthy for no other reason than one person abandoning Trump is noteworthy, even if it isn't representative of a trend. I would still take more stock in polls, not that they are known for accuracy, either.

I am surprised at the number of inner party Republicans who are coming out against him. What that means to their constituents, I'm not sure. This election is still a nail biter for me.

I had to wade out there myself today, but the threat to me is minimal.  For other people, this stuff is life-or-death and they better start voting like it.

It seems like Trump is becoming more vicious and offensive than in the past. If this is true (not sure if it is), he is going to be stepping on more and more toes, and picking up more opposition as he may turn off even some of his supporters. But for every person he offends, someone else may admire him more for it.

One thing I pretty sure of is that he is fighting this first difficult battle. Running against Hillary was probably not that threatening to him. Biden was not a strong candidate, but after Trump's first term, Trump scared a lot of Democrats out of the woodwork and to the polls. But running against a less cognitive Biden in 2024, was going to feel like a cake walk. Suddenly, the Democrats have come up with a candidate that actually scares him.

And Trump being Trump, he's going to double down on his anger and denial, because that's his default reaction. In short, "He's losing it." And if he gets elected, I see him getting even worse while he feeds his narcissistic power hungry brain by demolishing as many American values as he possibly can.

Why didn't Trump just use his Sharpie to reroute the hurricane!?

He's like Putin in the sense that he backs off after crushing defeat, but anything less and he keeps it up.  Unfortunately, our system is half complicit and half ineffectual so naturally, he's coming back for more.

Gotta love it when my home state makes global news:

Governor candidate describes himself as "black nazi" on porn forum

He denies it of course, and some of his staff quit - which is what people do when the allegations are untrue - but he's still polling at 35-40ish percent, which just goes to show the sort of despicable following this lunatic has.

But if you can't get votes with your antiquated ideology, the next best thing is to block voting at all.  NC voter rolls have been purged of 750,000 people.

Presumably, this is just a routine thing, getting rid of people for changing addresses out of state (understandable) or not voting for the past two elections (significantly less understandable) but the motives of this are suspicious, given its predictable effects.  And of course, the same people are against voting by mail and voting early, which paints quite a picture of a group of dictatorship-curious people who are very, very scared of voters and American liberty in general.  And naturally, they call themselves patriots.

If you're worried about being unfairly purged from the voter rolls, you can always check your status here

Garland charges three Iranians with election interference.  Perhaps someday the DOJ will get around to prosecuting Trump for Jan 6, or the Georgia phone call, or the fake electors scheme.  Election interference?  Meh.  Move along. Nothing to see here, and besides - the man is running for president and we wouldn't want the appearance of interfering in the election.

Speaking of fake electors, 14 of the 84 fake electors are returning to do it again.

If Trump somehow wins this election, I'm not sticking around for 2025. If America shits its bed, let the people who made the mess clean it up or fester in their own filth. Don't look to me to help fix it. I'm not ending up on a long list of political martyrs.

Redcaps: Did we make a mistake by ignoring climate change?  Nah, it's the liberuls controlling the weather with their weather control device (definitely a real thing) and intentionally steering hurricanes into red counties.

The Hurricane will hit Atlanta as well, so definitely not a whole lot of oxygen is making its way to Redcap Cory's brain.  And I don't know about other liberals, but I would prefer it to not hit anyone at all.  I wouldn't even think about the political ramifications in such a situation.  But Redcap Cory here does and evidently projects a lot.
