So I was playing minecraft with my sister and the door bell rings. It was this old bat republican going door to door handing out pamphlets. She's like tell your mother we need more voters. I was like yeah sure I'll tell her. I was surprised she didn't ask me to vote but I think she was getting the prickling feelings from my glaring.

I'm not fond of republicans in my state or in any state for that matter. I wish the democrats would campaign a little harder instead.

I'm not voting! No matter who gets in nothing is going to change because money talks, money is power, and it is easy to bribe people to get what you want. We don't have a country of the people, for the people, and by the people. It has always been throughout history that the rich govern, and tax the poor working man. Only a despot that loves people could create a society that is just.  As far as I know this has never happened with despots because of greed and the lust for power and the need to control the people. The Catholic Church has it down pat, and the Mormon church, and Scientology are giving it a run for its money. They don't have to pay taxes---remember? Look how the rich and powerful put their money in non profit organizations like Scientology claimed to be and convinced the IRS after they were a church when they had a billion dollar tax bill and went after the IRS  with their lawyers. They never had to pay that tax after "CON"vincing the IRS they were a church. Solitary

I read somewhere that the most just government is NOT democracy (which has too many ways to become corrupt, as we see with our own), but a benign monarchy.  The problem with that is even if you get a single good ruler, the next one probably will be a selfish asshat.

I don't see a good solution to our government problems.  Northern Europe seems to be doing it the closest to the best there is, but we all know 'merica won't copy those liberl, socialist commies!

I've never understood that mentality.  Shouldn't you copy someone who's doing things better than you?

If you listen to my right wing cousin, he's absolutely positive that no one does anything as well as the US.  It's not like he has evidence.  It's not like he's thought about it.  Hell, it's not even like he's trying to be patriotic.  It's simply incomprehensible to him that it could be any other way.  I think there are a lot of people with this mindset.  I also remember being taught by my teachers, how lucky we were to be born in America.  Well, it is lucky if the only alternative were to be born in Somalia, but the implication was that we were born into the most wonderful country ever conceived by man.

To be fair, I think there was a time when this was at least partially true, though I think there have been empires before ours that were equally good to be born into, even if you are born poor.  At least America doesn't have a hard glass ceiling on economic and/or social mobility (though we clearly have a barrier that's harder than hell to cross, it can be done). 

I think a lot of the conceitedness we see in Americans today stems directly from the WW2 and post WW2 era.  We viewed ourselves as the hero's of the world, even though black people still had to drink from different fountains in most places here.

Yeah, before WWII we were  just nobodies, kind of up and coming nobodies, that got our 15 minutes of fame, and we've been defining ourselves on those 15 minutes ever since.  And no matter how bad we fuck up, we still think we are great.  Well, some of us do.  You can find those types in bars, Vets Clubs, and rodeos, well just about any place, but a rodeo is my favorite place to look.
