I have not eaten celery in this shape.  They look sort of like turnips.

They sell that in the US as celery root or celeriac. Most people don't even notice it in the grocery store.

Being the totally adventuresome person I am---I never noticed it either.  And I don't know that I want to notice it even now. :)
