Why is it necessary to contemplate withdrawing the cent or nickel from circulation?  The nickel is metallic, not digital money.  Currently its dollar value is greater than its metal value.  The metal value is 3.6 cents, but the face value is 5.0 cents.  The difference of 1.4 cents is the seignorage.  But we are missing the sign on the numbers.  Since 1971, all paper/digital dollars are negative, they are debits.  The metallic part of the coin is the credit part.  So 3.6-5.0=-1.4.  As long as the seignorage is negative, it can circulate, otherwise it becomes profitable to pull it from circulation at face value, and make a profit by melting it for scrap.  This has happened in the 1960s with the silver coins 10 cent thru 50 cent.  This melting down is the implosion of the currency.  With paper money, this happens at a much lower ratio, since it is usually always cheaper to print a paper note that is worth more than its face value.  Except during hyperinflation like in Venezuela now.  With a high enough inflation rate, it is better use to burn the paper money as fuel, than to spend it.  The geniuses think they have this beat, with digital money, money that is just entries on a magical spreadsheet.  With hubris, when someone is doing something wrong, they simply double down on the original mistake.  Which is to say, they have removed the market signal from the money supply, as a way to avoid responsibility.  This is like famous cases where an incompetent stationary engineer (boiler man) who doesn't want to take responsibility for the boiler, tapes over the temp or pressure gauge of the boiler, because the warning bell of the steam overflow keeps him awake.  If you can't see or hear it, then it isn't real, right?  This is why, to be a stationary engineer (maintenance guy in a Manhattan building) you have to be certified in your training.

Corruption, like entropy, tends to expand into all nooks and crannies.  A con artist can flourish better if he can convince more people that he is practicing a get rich quick scheme, that for a mere purchase price of $15.99 for his tell all book, you can learn his investment secrets.

Immediate impact back then, Bush-Obama wrote two checks, IOUs on American taxpayers.  7 trillion to the US banks and 7 trillion to the European banks.  That is debt to the US taxpayer, because the US government has no money, they just have the ability to indemnify the taxpayers into the indefinite future.  And just because the Grim Reaper hasn't shown up on your doorstop with a demand you pay up now .. doesn't mean that you will live forever, or that your feet aren't already caught up in the wood chipper.  This has been done before ... see the story of Joseph in Genesis/Exodus.  The Egyptian people had to sell themselves into slavery, to get access to government food banks.  In the US this was renamed Food Stamps, and eventually privatized as SNAP.
