I love Dune.  I read the book--am re-reading it right now.  Bought the Avalon Hill game of Dune.  I liked it, but it was hard at that time for me to get people together to play games.  Saw the movie and it was just okay.  This new one looks more promising.

You saw the 1980s one, or the 2000s TV mini-series.  I saw both (the first part of the TV miniseries).  Liked both. The later books (and the later parts of the TV miniseries) are too ... out there for me.

The miniseries tried to be cool. Didn't cool. Just ... clumsy-pretty?

May thy knife chip and shatter.

(The miniseries was pretty damn good for a TV show - engaging and moving.  Decently acted, especially the Baron and Alia, good setwork, great music, etc.  They kinda overdid the spice eyes and the uniforms were a bit too...peacockish.  All in all, I'd say it was solid, though nowhere near as infuencial as a movie would be.)

Definitely better cinematography than the old movie ... CGI.

I'm rewatching the Resident Evil movies and there's one part in Resident Evil Extinction that hit a little too close to home:  the Umbrella Corp brass are having a teleconference and they bitterly complain about having to stay underground for weeks because of rampant infection on the surface.

Me too, guys.  Me too.

What is Umbrella Corp's goal, anyway?

1. Create deadly virus.

2. Infect entire globe with the virus.

3. Everybody dies.

Easy.  Take out life insurance on everyone.  Make AI the beneficiary.  AI becomes incredibly wealthy in Bitcoin.

Who knows. Why do we develop and test biological weapons in the real world, knowing if they are used or even spread outside of the lab they can completely destroy humanity?
