Its more a case that a boy this age is open to the world and understanding and learning about things. An adult who has been raised on nothing but hatred for anyone different to him will only know this because its instilled in his brain to hate it.
Its the same as animals, a wild animal living in the jungle will attack a human being the moment your in range. But an animal raised by humans the animal will see humans as family or his pack/pride.
