Astronauts Nick Hague and Alexei Ovchinin safely aborted from their malfunctioning rocket (https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-45822845) just under two minutes after launch.
Remember: when you escape a dangerous situation thanks to a safety mechanism that worked the way it was supposed to, the correct entity to thank is not some god, it's an engineer.
Wow, what a ride! I hope they find the problem soon so the program can get back on track.

Except for Challenger ... then blame engineering management, who ignored engineer protests over launching in cold weather.

The Russians are making the rocket engines now. They will embargo selling us any big ones.
We need to get our own program back on track. Depending on the Russians puts our whole diplomacy at risk.
Any spaceship crashlanding you walk away from is a good one.

The whole point of multiculturalism and economic interdependence? Destroy the USA. Our one bipartisan policy.

"it was a 3 point landing; here, there, and everywhere".
I remember hearing about the Challenger disaster on the radio. My best friend from a previous office used to follow every flight. I called her and she didn't know. The one flight she din't stay home to watch. We cried together on the phone.

Heard about the Challenger for a co-worker. That weekend my wife and I were scheduled to see a Space shuttle movie at the I-max. So that was our wake.

It isn't wrong to be relieved at small bits of luck. I can only imagine how people more directly involved must have felt.

Yes. I am glad I wasn't closer to the event.

I'm hoping Elon Musk and SpaceX can keep it up. Depending on the Russians for space access is crazy, as is relying on the Chinese.

We need to get on the inventive track again. Let's see some more balanced cooperative space travel tech from many nations.

Communism defeats capitalism. East defeats West. One liberal at a time ;-)
Shut up and eat your fried rice and drink your vodka, comrade.
The USA is over. No need to invent anything here, other than FEMA camps.

Really? The Gorn of the Corn, couldn't even beat Kirk!
OMG, I am so predictable! I just read a previous post and laughed to myself about a likely response.
And then scrolled down and saw that exact response. From myself!
So maybe next time I return, I will think "Ferengi"

Do you mean the hand/finger thing? I almost do that as a routine greeting just to see how people react.
It's a geeky nerd thing from TBBT. Funny though.

That's funny. On my cat blog, I'm TBT (The Big Thing). What is TBBT to you?
The Big Bang Theory. It's a show I love to hate.

Why? If I may be so bold to ask? Is it because Sheldon gave up on String Theory? The engineer is actually the hero among that group, the one who isn't a Normie or a impractical egg-head.

It's because all those smart people are made to seem really stupid. Solving practical problems isn't their forte. All they have is book-smarts, which doesn't count for much in the real world.

Yes, it is a Normie show. But the engineer (Howard) actually does things. He isn't ivory tower. Sheldon is the most ivory tower .... but he is the star of the show.
I think I like Leonard the best, he doesn't seem so full of himself as do the others.

It's more than that. The show itself is basically scorn for nerds and nerd culture thinly disguised as comedy. Its comedy is just "smart talk" slotted in at inappropriate situations. Be more normal and less nerdy, dammit!

Stale ... more than 10 seasons. And no, the Normie majority wouldn't watch a show with genuine nerds, silly.

Pretty much why I don't watch BBT -- it's still laughing at the smart people for the social offense of being smart, rather than slipping in a teeny bit of information so viewers can laugh with them instead.
Also, most of the conversations they have are ones that I have (or have had) with my friends, I don't need to see them on TV.
And Sheldon is just fucking annoying. When I hear him talk, I just want to hit him with a cast iron skillet until he stops.
