This is actually a strain of at least one christian offshoot. They ask: Is sin more powerful than Jesus's power to transform? No. Ergo everyone is cleansed upon death and goes to heaven.
Of course those who think this are called wrong-headed and blasphemous. How dare they invent a theology based on the logic of goodness. _________________ K Michau

Some:
- God belief doesn't hurt anyone
- The only people believers have to proof the existence of God to are themselves
- The Old Testament doesn't apply anymore
- Nowhere in the Old Testament does it say that homosexuals are bad
- Hell is a self-imposed punishment (God doesn't punish you, you punish yourself)
- "Feeling" the truth of the existence of God
- Believers of a particular doctrine are free to be absolved from the idiotic parts of their doctrine
- The universe is "wasteful" because there is no (Divine) Point. _________________ Antie. LiveJournal: Ephemeris Interretialis Diaphani.

Hence the need for Christian apologetics. Apologetics doesn't attempt to prove God to unbelievers, it only gives a veneer of rationality to those who already believe.

Unless the subject is homosexuality, then the OT is in full force.

It only calls the homosexual act an abomination, like eating shrimp.

Good one, I'd forgotten about this'n.

Actually, I'd like to hear more of this. It's lightyears better then the standard of someone pointing their finger in your face and condemning you to hell. _________________ Namaste,

| I don't think it's much better, they're still saying you're going to hell, they're just saying its all your fault and not at all gods. |

Actually it's not.
It's typical christian "Attach ego-to-god" BS. |

Oh, I hear that in various (stupid) ways. Like, some say (approximately) that you'll be kicking yourself for all eternity for not making the right choice. And the real sufferring of hell is the eternal contemplation of what you've missed out on. _________________ Please visit my site at www.caseagainstfaith.com featuring critiques of Lee Strobel and other apologetics

| The thing that some Christians say that bugs me the most is that there's a "war" on Christianity. Which of course is BS. Parts of the Catholic church and Evangelistic church are the one that's starting this "war". They are the ones that discriminate against people and point the finger telling you your going to hell. I especially hate Pope Benedict XVI(I did however like Pope John II) and Pat Robertson. Both of them are intolerant a holes. I remember I watched Jesus Camp a couple of months ago and I just wanted to slap some of those people. But then I look at my sister who is very religious and is one of the most tolerant people that I know, and it comforts me that not all religious people are corrupted or intolerant. |

Actually, there is a war on Christianity - and Islam, and Hinduism, and Buddhism, and Scientology, and Mormonism, etc., and these forums are a part of it. But it is a war of ideas, not violence, except when the religionists use force themselves. The violence seems to all be on their side, for some reason. _________________ "True wisdom is less presuming than folly. Sometimes, when I hear that claptrap, I remind the fundy that there are only 26 letters in the English alphabet, and yet those 26 letters can be used to write "Dick and Jane", or the sonnets of Shakespeare, without adding any more information. All the information required is contained in those 26 letters, and no more needs to be added. _________________ "True wisdom is less presuming than folly. I just finished The God Delusion, and I recall this. I'm also pleased to find quotes from Einstein stating that he did not believe in a personal God at all, refuting a claim made by Christians.
Talking Points that bug me:
There are over 20,000 copies of the Gospels, more than for any ancient documents, this somehow proves that the Bible is special.
My response: How do they know that? These copies were obviously reproduced by faithful monks in monasteries, over nearly 1000 years, not so remarkable in light of that fact. Many were reproduced in great numbers because before the printing press, this was the only way to distribute the Gospel to those thousands who could read - as with today, everyone then wanted their very own copy, to show they were believers. Furthermore, many ancient texts were destroyed by fanatical Christians and members of messianic cults, so we cannot make an honest comparison with contemporary documents. I know of no way one could account for this claim anyway. _________________ "Why does Creationism need a museum - is it now extinct?" - me

Maybe for a militant atheist. Personally, I have no desire to wage any kind of war. As far as I'm concerned, people can believe whatever fairy tale they want to, just so long as they don't do it at gun point or in voting booths. _________________ Namaste,
