I dug through a few of his [Robyn Hitchcok's] songs and finally found a few I really enjoyed, two of which are "I Often Dream of Trains" and "The Man with the Light Bulb Head". The Syd Barrett resemblance was uncanny. So maybe this can give you an idea as to which albums or other songs I might be interested in for further recommendations.
You might want check out the entire album "I Often Dream of Trains". "The Man With the Lightbulb Head" is off the great album "Fegmania!". If you want a more rockin' type of Hitchcock you might want to try the album "Underwater Moonlight" by his former band The Soft Boys. You can usually find a copy that has some interesting bonus tracks, including his cover of Barrett's "Vegetable Man". The odd thing is that while he sounds so much like Syd, he's far from a knock-off. In fact, he doesn't even try to sound that way. It really is his actual singing voice.

Thanks, those two songs really went off during my last psychonaut session.
Another good one for those type of excursions is "Hairway to Steven" by The Butthole Surfers. Perhaps some gamelan music or The Master Musicians of Jajouka...

What was he like when you met him?
The Rick Copeland and a few friends met him while he was playing a solo acoustic show in a bar several years back. He was hanging out with his really cute American girlfriend, chatting with fans, and selling t-shirts that had various drawings he had made. He remarked that he was interested in playing in places in the U.S. he had never been and figured Salt Lake was one of those spots. He was actually really cool... until... Well, one of The Rick Copeland's friends remarked about the similarieties with Barrett. Then he did a real about face and started aggressively arguing that while he admits Barrett was a strong influence (he also cited John Lennon and Dylan) he thought that he was quite different. He thensstormed off. His girlfriend looked at us (everyone was quite shocked as the remark was meant as a compliment) and sheepishly laughed saying "you guys hit a real sore spot with him on that." Yeah, appearantly so. After his set he tracked The Rick Copeland and his friends down and apologized and said that he overreacted. But over all he was pleasant enough...
It's funny to watch him on stage as he has these stream-of-consciousness ramblings between songs and you can seem him make them up as he goes along. _________________ “I think it’s also important for the President to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn.”

Agreed, GIT. Look how much he enjoys playing this one as well. He is very talented, to say the least. But the ones he LIKES to play, like the first and the above, there's a big difference. In my opinion, anyways. Thanks for posting this one, I missed it first time around. _________________

Hmm, okay. What I (think I) mean is that he is just a kid, and it looks as though he's being asked to play a lot and practice a lot of song versions as per the youtube rundown list. The ones he enjoys playing and focuses more on the music itself because of that enjoyment, are the ones that I enjoy watching more than the others. Not to say the others are bad in any way!
I'd hate to see this kid pushed and burned out. Were I the parent (which I am not and this is all guess-work according to what I have seen on youtube only) I would drop any influence and go with absolutely only what HE wants to do. Fire the instructor. And, even, see what he has past covers. I bet this kid has some serious original works he could do if given the opportunity! _________________
