ASS!!!

I've been using it for several days now and I can say that the people who created the security features in Vista should be taken out and shot.

The UAC is the problem. Even turning it off it still makes its presence known in that in the temp folder you can no longer delete or modify from it. I found this out when I tried to install Adobe Reader 8.0. It kept telling me to that the Temp folder was full (I have 95 Gigs free on my drive) or that I didn't have enough permission. I went on Adobe's site and found the solution in one of three possibilities. And it said that the problem was with UAC being turned off.

There are tweak programs now for Vista that will let you set UAC's levels to being less annoying, but it will still make you jump through rings to either install or uninstall programs by making you right click on the installation file and choosing 'Run as Administrator. If your program has to be registered you have to run it as an administrator the first time as well.

I wish that someone would make a patch to strip out all of this crap. These features are suppose to keep unauthorized persons out, not the authorized ones. Rolling Eyes

I heard Microsoft is in league with (?) to produce a computer exclusively for sex.
Must have something to do with all those books and magazine-articles about sex, some of which would make it nessecary to get jiggy with your partner carrying a stinkin' checklist. (kiss here *check* and here hmmmmmm *check* knibble on that *check* work my way down to there *check* rub these areas *check* more kisses there *check* lick in rapid up and down motion *check* slide a finger up there *ch... SHIT sorry babe, I was supposed to do that with a twisting motion. Okay, one more time from the top then?)

But seriously, I was at this big computerthing somewhere the other day, you know the kind, lots of nerds and geeks crowding the stands of hardware or software manufactorers in a big auctionhall. There were these two guys, and I suspect they were import branch or something because of the suits and clipon badges, and they spoke in english, but I distinctly heard them talking about a fucking computer.

No really. And it seems it's gonna come (no pun intended) with it's own special operating system.

They were particularly passionate about this; you should've heard them. It was "fucking windows this" and "fucking windows" that. They just kept going on and on about it, I swear.

They even mentioned a special division being started for this very project. Fucking Microsoft
And when one guy said "Microsoft can go Fuck itself! I didn't doubt for a moment that MS has the resources to pull something like that off. Maybe together with IBM, and they can nickname it "the Big pink", or something.

Anyway, the last bit of this conversation seemed a bit strange to me, when one guy brought up "Fucking Bill Gates". Could they've been talking about... cloning?

I wonder if Bill's been approached by someone in a white coat with a quetip lately.

yeah, I get that a lot. If blank stares were laughter I'd have my own HBO special by now.

What were you counting on? Solutions to a problem nobody here can solve? You just had to be one of the first ones to own it didn't you. As we say in Holland; when you burn your butt you're gonna have to sit on the blisters. Isn't there just the tiniest voice inside of you trying hard not to scream "I fucking KNEW something like this was going to happen!"?

I hoped a little comic relief might inspire you to blow off a little steam, so you can move on to waiting for an update/patch/fix/whatever.

Either way, the threads title alone should scare off others inclined to otherwise rush into upgrading, should that have been your intention.

Maybe by the time I'm force to give up XP they'll have the bugs worked out of Vista.

I didn't really ask for a solution, I just wanted to let off some steam. And yes, I also wanted to warn the faint of heart about upgrading too soon. I have over 26 years of experience with computers and this is the most annoying OS I've come across. Oh for the days of DOS. Smile Now that was a stable OS.

BTW, save this as a reg file to lessen the annoyance factor of UAC.

Another nuisance to Vista is that if it considers a program to be a security risk it will delete it without your permission even if the program is ok.

I think I can wait for SP1 to be added to Vista before buying, unless I buy a laptop that comes with it.

Kimmie, pleased to note one can install the Upgrade version on top of itself, thereby saving by never having to pay the full price.

One might even say that Vista = XP SP3, only with the annoyance of MS BOB and Clippy thrown in.

Even with all of its annoyances it is still an improvement. One thing that I do like is that you don't have to reboot when you install drivers like for your video card.

Here's the new Anti-PC Apple ad. This one is somewhat closer to the truth. Smile The only reason why the Mac doesn't have all that many security concerns is that hardly anyone is using it. Wink

I remember all the fantastic features promised in Longhorn. Unfortunately MS ripped all that out and filled the OS with performance and hardware crippling DRM crap in order to pander to the whims of Hollowood.
Personally I will stick with XP and MS can poke Vista where the MPAA and RIAA have tried to poke PC users.

I look forward to the missing Longhorn features, the same ones once first promised for Windows 95 and still too hard to MS to create.
