| Well I'm open to the idea there is "something" out there, but as Trout and Gerbil have stated, they completely ignore all scientific claims! Water isn't really compromised of h20 either :X |

But I will not deny Trout the ability to use the metaphor 'atheist priesthood', as it a phrase that accurately captures someone who is:
1. An evangelical atheist who is best known for his outspoken atheism.
2. Who preaches to, and is admired by, other atheists, because of his atheism
3. Who makes money off being an atheist via books, articles, speeches, websites, etc.
Now atheist priests aren't required to be celibate, or dress up in funny robes, or swear allegiance to a certain set of beliefs, or molest their atheist altar boys or webmasters...
...but as long as they meet the above criteria...I know what Trout is referring to when he uses the phrase. |
1. An evangelical biologist who is best known for his outspoken knowledge of biology.
2. Who preaches to, and is admired by, other biologists , because of his knowledge
3. Who makes money off being an biologist via books, articles, speeches, websites, etc.
a biologist priesthood? the problem is that numbered list can be altered to fit ANYTHING in there. it becomes meaningless. |
Well...the analogy/euphemism starts to break down a little more, because the theist and atheist 'priesthoods', are both evangelizing about the subject of theism.
One can certainly be an 'evangelist', and one can certainly be 'outspoken', and make money from, any number of subjects or disciplines. _________________ ...Oozing my brain chemicals in your general direction... |

Trout can spew it all they want to--doesn't necessarily bug this stoopid little heathen.

The biggest mistake anyone can make is taking anything that Trout, Gerbil or I say too seriously...
...alas, that is what got me banned from Trout's home forum.(not by Trout)

The issue comes up when they spew it as a mass section categorizer, with which to lump as many atheists underneath as they can and assume all the sheep-like atheists follow the 'priesthood' because they can't think for themselves.
|
Well this is a stereotype that atheists also use against theists, and that people can use against other people who are part of any organized institution that encourages group-think of some sort or another...which covers just about all human institutions.
| Quote: |
This is only done after stacking more meaning onto the word 'atheist' (like immoral, dangerous, lovers of chaos, etc) and being unable to acknowledge that some folks don't actually have an invisible being to answer to after they're dead in the first place, just the visible ones while they're alive like themselves and their society.
Here's something theists can't seem to grasp and it comes out in silly phrases used like 'atheist priesthood' and/or 'atheist moral code'.
|
Oh I agree...after a while it becomes somewhat humorous and cliche...at theologyweb, many of the atheists willing and happily referred to themselves as 'baby-eaters', just to go along with this type of caricature.
Theists slander atheists and other theists of different sects, and now, with the very recent advent of freedom of speech and the rise of secularism, we atheists can finally give some back, without being burned at the stake.
I'm making up for alot of lost time...

'Foreskin fascinated' is a term I'm stealing, using, and giving zero credit back for. Just a 'heads' up! |
Atheists are also notorious plagarists who don't respect intellectual property and/or royalty payments...you'll be hearing from my lawyers...they're Jewish btw... _________________ ...Oozing my brain chemicals in your general direction... |

They are very hit & run those two...Trout has a very busy life, and his own home Christian forum to tend to, and the Gerbil, has already walked away from that very same Christian forum, and probably isn't looking for this den of evil atheists, to be his new home.
I on the other hand may stick around for awhile...and search for some new pretentious blowhard to annoy. _________________ ...Oozing my brain chemicals in your general direction... |
