Find God, win a trip to Mecca (or Jerusalem, or Tibet)
| Quote: | | It sounds like the beginning of a joke: what do you get when you put a Muslim imam, a Greek Orthodox priest, a rabbi, a Buddhist monk and 10 atheists in the same room? Viewers of Turkish television will soon get the punchline when a new gameshow begins that offers a prize arguably greater than that offered by Who Wants to be a Millionaire? Contestants will ponder whether to believe or not to believe … Those persuaded will be rewarded with a pilgrimage to the spiritual home of their newly chosen creed — Mecca for Muslims, Jerusalem for Christians and Jews, and Tibet for Buddhists. |
This is why I don't get along with so many of my fellow theists. Faith is an intimately personal matter. These public displays are really stupid at best. _________________ Nos laetus edo qui votum opprimo nobis.

If the atheists win do they get a trip to a whorehouse? _________________ The Christian church, in its attitude toward science, shows the mind of a more or less enlightened man of the Thirteenth Century. It no longer believes that the earth is flat, but it is still convinced that prayer can cure after medicine fails.

While I agree that it is a very personal matter, discussions are a very public matter and good for extending tolerance and education of differences.
I think it would be an interesting show. At least for awhile to see how the format is handled and hopefully to see all people pleasant to each other. |

It sounds like a game show for the atheists. The rabbi/priest/monk etc... try to convince them of their own faith, and if the atheist is presuaded he/she goes to the associated temple/country (ie. Tibet if he is persuaded by Buddhism).
Anyways it just sounds like a show to mock atheists. _________________

I would just agree with the Buddhist for the trip to Tibet, then go back to atheism as soon as my trips over . _________________

I don't see how this ensures their religious transformation is genuine, but I'm sure it's bulletproof none-the-less. _________________

I seriously doubt anybody will change their mind. However if the discussion is moderated properly and the people are at least somewhat knowldgeable, it might make for interesting discussion. _________________ OBJECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be great to have that here, but have atheists like Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Bob Price, Christopher Hitchens, and Reggi go head to head on National Telivision shooting down arguments from those of the likes of Hovind and Cumfart.
People would see their beliefs shot down left and right. _________________ Just as a magician is the least likely to believe in magic, those that are least likely to believe in the supernatural, are those that most understand the natural.

I'd rather see Harris and Dawkins put up against Bloomburg and N. T. Wright.... _________________ OBJECTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aren't you the one who was challenged to show Dawkins to be totally wrong, and never answered? _________________ Yeah... I said that. |
