Even though they've spent a great deal of their existence killing and discriminating based on small differences in their beliefs, you call that "working well"?! Shocked Confused

Quote:
Bob is standing on the edge of a bridge, looking over the torrential waters. John runs up and shouts, "No, don't do it!"
Bob: Why shouldn't I?
John: Are you spiritual?
Bob: Yes
John: Really? Me too! What religion are you?
Bob: Christian
John: Really? Me too! Catholic or protestant?
Bob: Protestant
John: Really? Me too! What branch of protestantism?
Bob: Baptist.
John: Really? Me too! Baptist of 1896, or reform of 1915?
Bob: Reform of 1915
John: Die heathen! *pushes Bob off of the bridge*

And you call that "working well"? I call that "sad, but true".

Cairoman,

I guess you are one of these types that are into thought control. It does not suprise me. Insecurity leads to controling people through an iron fist. We see it on the governmental level, the international level and in spousal abuse cases.

Christianities diversity in the first century til today is an indicator of how well Christianity works. The idea that by far all of those christian groups have a core theological structure (bodily resurrection, trinity, salvation through Christs death, biblical inspiration, the personality of the holy spirit etc. etc.) and yet by and large (with some execeptions) it has been done with a spirit of unity.

Your view of life is about sheep smelling each others ass in single file..... I choose a better option.

first you respond with an ad hominem and then add a total lie about the harmonies of the early christians. Uh hello. Didn't Iraneus (correct me if I'm wrong here) write a book called "Against heresies" in the 2nd century. You had Marcion, the docetist, arius, et al. that had vastly different ideas on who jesus was. That surely is a testament on how well christianity didn't work until Augustine and the proto-orthodox christians codified who christ was in the 4th century at the counsel of Nicea.

And I surely wouldn't call the Inquisition, Crusades, and genocide of native Americans, etc. "working well."
