| The Presidency is nothing more than a tenuous remnant of a monarchy. Why do we need a president? |

I think that people generally look to individuals for leadership. Whether it be a president, monarch, prime minister, etc.. People generally are more able to relate to an individual than a group like parliament or congress. _________________ "The most dangerous man, to any government, is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. And even if he is not romantic personally, he is apt to spread discontent among those who are." -H.L. Mencken |

Well, to a point I suppose, yes. More like a wolf pack needs an alpha dog. Actually, much of our behavior imitates wolves. Some of the similarities are quite startling. _________________ "The most dangerous man, to any government, is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. ? I'm talking about human behavior, not rationalizations for those behaviors. _________________ "The most dangerous man, to any government, is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. My handsomeness and lack of emo tendencies is irrelevant to this thread. Tell me Scott, why do you need a president? |

Why do you think humans are more inclined to look for subjugation rather than freedom? |

Is following a strong leader always subjugation? Sometimes it is by choice, which would be "freedom".
Leaders don't always have to be tyrannical. Would you say MLK was "subjugating" those who looked to him for leadership? Or other leaders who inspired people to challenge the status-quo? _________________ "The most dangerous man, to any government, is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos.
