well, i'm more of a 'make fun of it because its stupid and make fun of the people who ARE, because they're stupid' kind of guy and you're more of a 'this stuff is serious, hurtful and needs to have active measures made against it and to make up for discrepancies in society that exist because of it' kind of guy.
I focus more on how legal, institutionalized racism has been abolished and how only ignorant, trashy, laughable people are racist...
You seem to focus more on how racism DOES still exist in our US of A and how it still fucks people up and who, why and to what degree 'everyone is a little bit racist'.
i think we both are fans of 'Cosbian' "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" race philosophy.
of course... you may disagree with my characterization...

Yeah I definitely disagree with that.
I don't take this any more seriously than you take your atheism seriously. Just because I don't joke about it doesn't mean I have a rod up my ass whenever someone mentions race. I make comments along the same lines you would about a religious discussion, but given it's a very sensitive issue with a lot of people, I think ANY comment I make about race that isn't making fun of it or outright condemning blacks is going to be viewed as me having an agenda or trying to play victim.....and that's been our huge problem here.
I keep asking people to re-read my posts and tell me where I go wrong with being too serious or trying to play victim, but I get no response.
I recently took issue with you and Philo mocking me because you were beating this "whitey" thing into the ground. I never once said anything about "whitey" on this board, and if every time I mention race, I'm going to get comments about "whitey", that gets old pretty fast and I'm not sure it was even funny in the first place.
We just get our wires crossed because I continue to discuss issues of race EXACTLY the same way I discuss issues with religion, but most people here take a different approach and don't want to have an intellectual discussion about it.....they'd rather get personal, and/or joke about it.
Again, I challenge anyone to find a post where I tried to play victim.....in fact I have quite a few posts that have said the complete opposite.....that I don't even consider myself black and that I'm extremely fortunate with where I am in my life. So, I'm wondering where the "this stuff is serious" stuff is coming from.

Wrong again Mol. I don't focus on any of that. Any comment I've made about the existence of racism has come AFTER someone has claimed that racism is dead. I don't "focus" on anything. I think you have "focused" on my specific comment and not the entire context of why I was saying what I did.
I don't think our camps are too different, but you insist on painting me as some guy that focuses on race or something. If I come on this board and I see a topic about race....I'll comment.....the same way I do about any other issue that I may have an opinion on. I then get called out as "focusing on race" and I still have no idea why. I mean you can use this thread as an example....let me know where I went astray in terms of saying something that suggested I focus too much on racism.
