Take atheism as an example, atheism isn't a belief in anything, it's a lack of belief, and yet the religious managed to turn the label into a term almost equal to that of "baby killer". So imagine a group that calls themselves Satanists, the very thing that Christians are taught to oppose, they would have taken the full force of their scorn and have thus suffered as a result of it. The 1970s Satanic Panic is an example of exactly what can ensue when a few people decide to create a fuss, the media follows along and creates a mass panic which is exactly what happened.
We can see the same panic techniques being used today, and it's almost laughable to think about how worked up everyone was.

So, lets see if I understand this.

This church of Satan, it doesn't actually worship the Christian devil? If they do, don't they believe they're all going to hell?

Rather it's just a collection of people who have the same beliefs.

Those being that you should always look out for yourself, but not to the loss of others, avoid the ignorant and allow them no respect...etc

I may be missing the point here, let me know

Satanists don't worship Satan, they can if they want to but Satan is viewed as a mascot for personal liberty. A Satanist doesn't actually have to believe in the supernatural, but such a Satanist would clearly never practice magick either, so that's really down to personal preference.

They have rules and sins like everyone else, for instance if someone was caught abusing children they would be asked to leave the church of Satan. Where most religions teach the individual to place everyone else first, the occult of Satanism teaches it's followers to put themselves first. It teaches them that if sex is a pleasure then do it, it's about physical and emotional gratification.

Satanism teaches the individual that knowledge is the greatest power of all, to not be fooled by past orthodoxies or be pulled in by this consumer society, such things make for a disposable society. You must keep an eye for aesthetics, but always remember that it's about what's pleasing, not what's supposed to be pleasing. It's also the only church that openly accepts gay and lesbian members and pays its taxes like everyone else.

Satanism is just like any other religion out there, don't let them fool you. They are marketing a brand name, specifically to the teen-angsty crowd who thinks it's cool to buck the norm. And YOU TOO can be one of them for a mere $200!

I said it in the other thread and I'll say it again, Satanists are nothing more than dorks who were picked on in high school needing something to empower themselves. Otherwise why would they need such empowering titles such as "High Priest" or "Warlord" or whatever else you hear.

It's a farce and it's got nothing to do with atheism. So they don't believe in the major religions, you can't call them a sub-set of atheism because they are STILL an organized religion. They have a bible, they have hierarchy and commandments to obey. Atheism means "without theism" or without god/religion. They definitely have a religion there.
