Hi,
Another newbie from Blighty.
I have done the Xian thing as a kid for about 6 months, was an atheist for many years and a regular on the now ancient and defunct WBS Chat (I was a regular in the Atheist room). Drifted into a pagan/heathen viewpoint although I never subscribed to the 'God' bits but I guess I am culturally still drawn to the lifestyle. Was given The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins for Xmas (how ironic)..........and re-discovered why I was atheist in the first place.
I have two teenage daughters, a husband, a resident mother, 6 cats and a job. I used to work in the voluntary sector as a qualified voluntary sector manager (Environmental/Farming) but changed jobs to work in admin at a school due to burn out and dissalusionment of working with amatures for bosses.
I trawled through several atheist sites but this one seemed to have a good balance of humour, discussion and a few teeth too!
I enjoy a good hearty discussion and a laugh and am looking forward to being here. _________________ Religion: "a waste of time and Goats" - Richard Dawkins |

Welcome! If you want some good reads, check out thh "Burden of Proof" post made by romans120 and the "Jesus: Man or Legend" post in the One-on-one discussion section. _________________ "Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, underwhich weak minds are servilely crouched. Pssht, I got "God is Not Great" for Christmas. It's not quite so uncommon in families that accept atheism.
Anyway, welcome! Hope you enjoy it here. _________________ Regarding creationists: Aren't these the same people who gave us alchemy and astrology, and who told us the earth, besides being flat, was at the center of the universe? Why don't we just kill these fucking people? ~George Carlin |

The only time that my mother and Dawkins came in contact was when I was purchasing Carl Sagan's Billions & Billions at my local bookstore, and she walked over to me. On the next shelf was a huge display of The God Delusion, which made my mother instantly blanch. She suspects im an atheist, and this really upset her.
Feel lucky to be so well understood by your family ^^ _________________ "What I'm saying is, if God wanted to send us a message, and ancient writings were the only way he could think of doing it, he could have done a better job." --Carl Sagan

In memory of George Carlin. May he rest in peace.

It's not quite the case. I think they have given up trying to understand me, it's easier to give me something to read so that I disappear behind the book and shut up. Fools! It just added fuel to my fire.
My dad brought me up as atheist, he excelled at arguing with Xians, but then caught a very bad dose of Baptist a few years before he died. He dropped dead giving 'testament' in church - no please DO NOT sympathise. I think it is funny as fuck, I'd give a great deal to have seen the faces of the congregation. They insisted on providing a christian service against my wishes but I think I managed to upset a fair number of them and my aunt threatened to beat up one guy despite th fact that she was wheelchair bound.
Anyways.........back to reading through the forums, I'll probably lurk initially! _________________ Religion: "a waste of time and Goats" - Richard Dawkins |
