There exists no more significant genetic difference between a black and a white person than there are between two people of the same race.
Racists make it out to think that race accounts for actual inherent differences between the races when it has nothing to do with genetics and everything to do with culture. Race means nothing. You can tell far more about a person based on other things than race....which is what moloth was arguing with CET about. |

Well as for this forum, I don't know who's laughing "with" racism or laughing "at" racism. We could have some people viewing this forum that are laughing at the jokes thinking how true they are rather than laughing at how absurd a joke it is. If it's the former, we're not doing ourselves any good by having a thread like this....if one cares about ending racism that is.

Already explained to you why I care. If a supremacist cares enough to want to burn my house down or kill my child....or to a lesser degree deny me access to a bank loan, I should care. You may not have to take these things into consideration, but I do.

CET did not title this thread "Let's make fun of race jokes!!!"......so I can see no difference between this thread and one that you would typically see on a white supremacist board. You could literally take this thread and put it on tightrope.com and it would fit right in. There's nothing that distinguishes this as a thread dedicated to "joking racism", so to normal folks, it will be taken as "let's joke races".....which further reinforces racism and racial streotypes, which is against what you have said you stand for moloth.
I thought you were the most vocal on this board about not noticing race.....so how in the world would you be able to participate in a thread like this?

Ummm.....my first post said something like how 80% of the US is white, but in a race joking thread, how are 75% of the jokes "nigger" jokes? You claim to joke everyone but as soon as there is a "race joke" thread, all I see is minority jokes....selective joking maybe?

again, how am i responsible for controlling other peoples thoughts?? I could say, "i like my coffee black" and someone could think its a race thing... there is no way i am going to concern myself of what someone else's presupposed opinion, that is not going to be changed or unchanged, is on race.

If you think that seeing his racist jokes made fun of on an atheist forum is going to sway his desire to burn down your house one way or another, you must live in constant, paralyzing fear. To be RE-inforced, they have to be there already. someone who is already racist is someone not of my concern. they're idiots.
By your logic, telling 'dead baby' jokes reinforces infanticide. Hmm... i wonder if there is a correlation between a 'dead baby' jokebook being published and the number of infanticides in gross or impractical ways?
if someone is going to kill a baby, it isn't because they heard a joke about it.
If someone is racist, and is so much so that they're going to burn your fucking house down, its not because of a retarded, tired old race joke told on an atheist forum.
Both of these kinds of people have problems far beyond my scope or control.

The irony of it is that in public, ie. professional comedians, etc., probably 95% of "nigger" jokes are told by black comedians...as are probably 95% of anti-white people jokes. The reason a thread like this starts, is because it's entirely socially unacceptable anywhere else, and everyone here is smart and knows all the other regulars here aren't racist.

You beat me to this. It's acceptable for comedians on ComicView or Dave Chappelle to make fun of themselves and other black stereotypes, because their intent is obviously not malicious, but becomes a serious problem when any other race gets involved.

Yes, because humor is disarming. If we have the balls to laugh at ourselves, and laugh at bigots, then where is the power of hate? Laughing at a threat renders it impotent. It is getting mad at it that reinforces it.

You're trying to joke the racists and in your own mind it may come off that way, but a lot of people (like myself) who have seen threads like this and heard people try and joke about race to actually harm minorities.....it comes off as a very sophmoric thread.
White people get a kick out of hearing nigger jokes for whatever reason. Whether it be because of the absurdity of the joke and that its so far from reality, or because its funny to just laugh at niggers. I have no idea, but I feel like if white people were given free license, they would tell nigger jokes till the cows came home. I personally don't get the fascination. Call me a tightass or oversensitive, but I've just never found it funny when people in the majority joke the minority. And this doesn't just apply to race.
I realize that you're not actually "joking" minorities, but to me its just unnecessary no matter what the intention. If the bigger guy is beating up on the little guy, don't defuse the situation by trying to tell the jokes MORE often.....make it crystal clear that you're trying to show the bigger guy how completely dumb he is. If a guy who actually hates niggers came in here, he wouldn't think you were joking him....and that's my only point. You say that's your intention with this thread, but I don't see that in your delivery. Instead I just see minority jokes posted the same way they would be posted on a racist board.
Don't mistake my posting for being upset or bothered in the least. I speak up when I see an issue because that's what I've conditioned myself to do....and I see an issue here. Have your fun or do whetever you have to do to keep your world spinning, but I'm simply trying to bring you another perspective on having a "race jokes" thread, especially on a free thought forum. If you're going to make fun of racists, at least make it clear that that's what you're trying to do.
But personally, I don't think that's what most of you want to do. I think you've been restricted from telling these jokes by society for so long and you feel the need for a release so you can "have your fun" the way the black comedians do. Well no matter how much you think it's a double standard, it matters whether or not the jokes come from the majority or the minority. It's like your friend calling you a bitch and a total stranger calling you one. Minorities have earned the right to joke one another because they know what its like to be a minority....coming from someone in the majority, it doesn't sound the same. So as long as we refer to one another as minority and majority, we're going to have these double standards, which is why I advise we quit referencing it all together.
The best thing you can do to mock racists is not respond to them. Joking them is only going to make them more angry anyway.

really? tell me more about how "white" people are. You seem to be able to know what someone gets a kick out of, just based on their skin color/race. you know, there's a name for that. 
so, as long as there are 4,999,999,999 of some people, its okay to make fun of the 5,000,000,001 other ones. got it. now, we have to count how many people of a certain 'kind' there are before something is funny.
So, telling Democrat jokes wasn't funny 2 years ago, but now that they are the majority in congress and the senate the same jokes are now funny? O_o

why should the whole world go out its way to make sure that YOU get a joke? If its clear to everyone but you, including others of your 'race', have you free-thought that it might be YOU that needs to look at this from another angle?
free-thought means being able to change ones mind. Dude, for 25 years or so of my life, i was PARALYZED be fear, guilt and shame about ANY sort of racial jokes... especially about 'blacks'. I have NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER used the word "nigger" in a joke or as a reference to a human being. i have used it as a quote or as an illustration. I have NEVER used it to hurt someone with any intent at all.
now, i have changed my mind. i was able to think outside of my little box of fear, guilt and shame and am able to see past the bullshit that racism is at its core.

Well no matter how much you think it's a double standard, it matters whether or not the jokes come from the majority or the minority. It's like your friend calling you a bitch and a total stranger calling you one. Minorities have earned the right to joke one another because they know what its like to be a minority....coming from someone in the majority, it doesn't sound the same. So as long as we refer to one another as minority and majority, we're going to have these double standards, which is why I advise we quit referencing it all together. |
so instead of solving the problem or making it a uniting force, you want to sweep it under the rug and try to ignore the elephant in the room? that seems very... i don;t want to use too strong of a word here... but it seems cowardly.. or immature. it seems like running from the problem, instead of facing it head on, openly and together. Double standards only cause resentment and division. evening the playing field bring the might low and low high. making fun of everyone, for whatever reason, about the little silly, inconsequential differences we have seems like a lot more fun and more constructive than glaring at someone for a fucking word.

clearly, i am very passionate about this subject, Zoc... My only goals are to fill divisions that have been artificially made between people. to get people to see that we CAN move on from all of that shit of the past... if you LET it. it takes both sides. clinging to those old notions only makes them keep living. when you let it effect you, THAT is what keeps it perpetuating.

How do you know whether or not we are all 'coming from a majority'? Based on what? Our looks? Interesting. Sorry to disappoint, but I'm actually a minority, my ancestors went through some shit for the last 500 years, so I guess that means I've earned the right to make race jokes.
