I might not care when I get there, well, there wont be any "I" around. I only wish it gets to some use, so I've signed a donor card for my entire body. _________________ "The first principle is that you must not fool yourself - and you are the easiest person to fool" --- Richard P. Feynman

Finally someone who agrees with me. I have been saying this for years, but people always looked at me like I was weird. |
I too want to be cremated and want the memorial to be a joyous celebration. |

Presumably, I would like my organs donated. After that, it would be nice to have my body donated to science...perhaps a medical school. I mean, enough of this burial nonsense. What egregious waste of land that is...almost as egregious as golf courses. _________________ An artist sees beauty in a painting. I see beauty in a logical proof.

I would like my organs to be donated. Or at least the useful ones. Which should be around the count of zero. _________________ VERITAS OMNIA VINCIT

Huh? I read the wiki write up, and I wasn't able to follow. It almost immediately lost me in jargon from the book. |
This bit was helpful (from wiki): | Quote: | Speakers research the dead person's life and give a speech that attempts to speak for them, describing the person's life as he or she tried to live it. This speech is not an apology, but rather a way to understand the person as a whole, including any flaws or misdeeds.

damn right. at my funeral someone had BETTER talk about ME. The last funeral i went to, not a damn word was said about the person laying in the casket.. nothing. just a 20 minute tirade about Jesus's love for all his chillen's.
It was depressing that the person who just died had his entire life ignored or forgotten at his time of remembrance. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

Monty,
To be honest, I just think it's a tad rude. The verbage should either be toned down a bit or the humor turned way up. Perhaps you intended for it to be very sharp? Because that's the way it comes off. The general feeling that I would like to leave people with would not be shock and awe. In other words, I think there are some great ways to convey the same point without making any of your close friends/relatives feel insulted.

| I would rather not have a funeral. Just cremate me and throw away the ashes. It would help others get back to a normal life too. When you don't see the body or have a funeral your left with disbelief. They would be shocked for a while and be back in a normal life. Personally I hate funerals. Why should I be sad for a dead person? And if I'm not sad I'm expected to be because everyone else is. |

Obviously I won't care when I'm dead, but I've always had this fantasy about fucking with people from beyond the grave.
Idea 1: Specify that I have a wake. And during the wake I want the band to play a few specific songs (only the lawyer and the band know about this). So at some point during the ceremony, the band will say "This next song is a special request from the deceased!"
Idea #2: Make my heirs do something that I never had the balls to do myself when I was alive. eg. "Scatter my ashes on the summit of Mt. Everest." Naturally, I won't know if they actually carry out my request, but I'll die knowing that the joke was on them. _________________

It just goes to show how fit the religious memes are. _________________ An artist sees beauty in a painting. I see beauty in a logical proof.

Fair enough - and keep in mind, that's just how it would start out.
Hopefully it will be a long, long time from now and there will be many revisions |

I thought there might be. However, I will say that it's a good rough draft- As postmortem jokes go, I definitely "get it". |
