They have my highest respect for not passing on their beliefs.

Were they belibers?

ah tink dey belibed in sumting, bub i dint no wut.

My dad had bad experiences with organized religion in his youth and was much more of a scientifically minded guy, anyways. National Geographic and NOVA were Sunday entertainment, not some leather faced man waving a book around in a cheap suit asking for money. my mother was a lazy-theist who one day actually READ the Bible and quickly decided that she could never be a christian. I was never taken to church by my parents, god/jesus never came up and the only time 'god' was ever mentioned was to answer a question about the natural world they didn't have any clue as how to answer. of course, even for a curious child, "goddidit" was extremely unsatisfying and only pushed me to research things for myself.

Sounds like you were very fortunate. Parents that are religious drag their offspring to church every chance they get.
