just saw the episode. the point seems to be that we shouldn't say nigger, because we don't realize how painful it is for blacks to hear that word.
well then why did they say the word so much in the show?
this is about as weird as seeing a Vet wipe his ass with a flag while telling a group of kids to respect our flag. |

Context. | no. the guy on the wheel of fortune show said nigger as a mistake, not out of racism. he thought that was what the word was.
this made him evil and the "nigger guy" pissing off the black kid, and the end of she show says its because the kid in the blue hat didn't understand what it feels like for a black person to hear that word.
so then if saying nigger causes blacks pain that we whites just don't get, why did they say it over and over and over in the show, knowing all the black audience members who
would suffer? is this some kind of weird irony that I'm missing? |

Randy's context was "People Who Annoy You". That was taken as a Freudian slip meaning "Niggers annoy me".
South Park's context was specifically to discuss the issue. In the latter, the context is almost completely benign. _________________ Namaste,

question: the first word that popped in my mind when I saw that picture posted by Mr-C was "nigger" so am I now a racist?
come to think of it being annoyed by blacks wouldn't be racist. you can be annoyed by people and not think you are superior to them.
but still I am not "Annoyed by blacks" either. some blacks annoy me (jessie jackson), but some don't (bill cosby) so its not a freudian slip either.
I saw that picture and thought "niggers" then was tempted to be smart aleck and type "nuggers, noggers" like I was an idiot not seeing the obvious and just guessing.
naggers didn't pop in my head either. so implying that this guy was racist means I am too, and I know for a fact I am not, thus I don't see this guy as a racist either. (though I don't watch enough of southpark, he might be a racist in the show. the fat kid, cartmen sure is a racist. calling for a race war, and bashing jews! ) |

Always find it interesting how blacks make up maybe 13% of the US population, but maybe 75% of racial jokes. Why do you think this is?
This is exactly my point that black people seem to be the at butt end of most racial jokes, and you've done nothing but prove my point here. Some of you have said you want to do your part in ending racism.....and then this....pathetic.
Everyone can take a joke, so long as its in proportion. If blacks make up about 13% of the population, they'd expect to only be at the butt end of a joke 13% of the time.....its a little different when you're outnumbered AND you're constantly on the wrong end of jokes. Get a clue guys (and gals). You claim to know what it's like to be hurt as others have, but you're showing you have no clue what stuff like this does to your self esteem. If you did, you wouldn't do it.

I had the same reaction the first time I saw the episode too. _________________ Namaste,
