I'd also like to add to what Chaoslord said about the fitness of the god meme. Another very fit part of the god meme is the bit that goes something like, "Whatever is said against god, is the work of Satan." This immediately kills any possible input, and totally avoids cognitive dissonance. _________________ Namaste,

The retort to "Whatever is said against god, is the work of Satan" is "God works in mysterious ways" *with a twisted smile*. It always puts the believers in a quandary. |

Most definiatly. This has been studied extensively. Its even got a technical terms: The Diabolical Lie. In Breaking The Spell Dan Dennett talks about it on pages 207-208.
"...It is, almost literally, a trick with mirrors, and, like many good tricks, its so simple its hard to believe it could ever work...What is particularly cute about this trick is that is a perfect 'wild card,' so lacking in content that any sect or creed, or conspiracy can use it effectively." (Dennett, 2006, p. 207) _________________ An artist sees beauty in a painting. I see beauty in a logical proof.
