Hey, i'd just like to get something started concernng childhood religious experiences.
I pretty much never understood why I was a jehovah's witness as a kid other than "because mom said so". i became an atheist soon after she left. One of the harder parts of being a JW was that i was the only one in in the entire school. I was always excluded from activities involving holidays (JW's believe they're pretty much evil) and so i had few friends. I wondered why I was so outcast for being good to my religion. I was constantly confused and eventually became very depressed because of this. My childhood was not too happy. I've grown up having trouble being social but i'm recovering (obviously). I'm quite happy now. yay!
I'd be interested in hearing how other people's religions affected them. Thanks!

Hello and it's glad to hear you are doing better now.
My atheism and love for science has hurt my relaltionships with my family because I don't believe in all the magic and crap that about it really.
I look forward to talking to you. _________________ "If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for a reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed." Albert Einstein

I think my earliest memory that you might consider of a religious/spiritual nature goes back to when I was really young. I can't even remember how old I was, but probably around five or six. Someone had a pet that died--a mouse or hamster or something--and I helped my friend bury it. Next day, or a couple days later (again, my memory here is fuzzy), they unburied it and we couldn't figure out why it hadn't gone to heaven! I had heard that people go to heaven when they die, and I guess I figured pets must go there, as well, but this one was still there in the box. I was really puzzled about that; guess I hadn't figured out the concept of the soul, yet. My family were not regular church goers and I only went to Sunday School sometimes. _________________ Kryten: Don't you believe that God exists in all things? Aren't you a Pantheist?
