Kinda surprised to see it's not out in the US yet, but I guess it makes a bit of sense since this is primarily a British production.
Anyway, when it comes out in the US, I'd advise everyone here living there to go see it. It's a technically wonderful and beautifully understated film about the potential extinction of the human race and I think anyone able to appreciate a "quiet" action movie will like it. It deals in fundamentalism without becoming preachy, and the way it treats religious subjects and messianic themes is fantastic. In the hands of less bold director and screenwriters this could turn into a heavy-handed clunker with dense allegory, but instead it just dances across the basics of the messianic myths while keeping a secular, realistic tone and its tongue in its cheek.
Also, it's a bit like V for Vendetta without the Wachovski brain spooge, only with the easthetics of Blade Runner and Saving Private Ryan. I absolutely loved it. |

| Oh, and I thought it was funny that the main character, who believes in no inherent meaning in the universe, is named Theo. No idea what it means. |

I finally saw this movie the other night. Destined to be a classic I should think. You'll probably find it disturbing, as I did, but a story that wishes to make a point about humanity is rarely anything but.
My thoughts (2 cents) on this:
Mother nature (Think Selfish Gene) is being destroyed and devises her own plan for survival. Either in spite of or because of this....:
The state becomes powerful and controlling. There is a rebellion. The state is heartless and (Aldous Huxley like) demands a kind of conformity. The rebellion has good intentions but in the end succumbs to a similar type of conformity. Nearly everyone sacrifices their humanity to a cause or belief and the importance/value of the "individual" is sacrificed and lost forever. A recipe for world chaos, destruction and the end of humankind.
The combat scenes are some of the most realistic I've ever seen in film (Think Full Metal Jacket).
Michael Caine's role (a hippy) is one of the best (definitely funniest) I've ever seen him in. _________________ Fundamentalism: "The hallmark of the collective non-indivduated life" - C.G. Jung

I like this film.
There is some heavy Christian symbolism in it however. _________________ MY YouTube Videos

saw it a few nights ago as well... i got something in my eye on several occasions during the film.
More proof that Michael Cain is a REAL actor... not some hack that can only portray one personality. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

I went to see this yesterday after Moloth recommended it. I thought it was an amazing film, though the person I went with didn't care for it. I guess it just depends on the person really. I do plan on buying it when it comes out on DVD...

I watched it this weekend. Great movie! Probably the best I've seen in a while. Clive Owen and Michael Caine are both incredible actors.
I also noticed the religious undertones (Virgin Mary, Moses, Human Sacrifice, etc), but it didn't bother me. _________________ This space is reserved for inarticulate meat puppets who have no true perspective outside the refuge of quotation marks.

It also has the longest continuous filmed shot in all of movie history.
Incredible movie. Not only plot and acting, but directing and cinematography as well. _________________ Fuck you bitch!!! I told you the asparagus is in the freezer! - William Shatner

What scene was that? Where Juliane Moore got assasinated? _________________ This space is reserved for inarticulate meat puppets who have no true perspective outside the refuge of quotation marks.

Yeah. It starts from the moment Clive and Julianne are doing that "ping pong ball game" (which they did for real, not animated) all the way up to when they cops finally stop them. So not only was it the longest continuous filmed shot, but it had car chases, fire blockades, and two motorcycles crashing into the car. |

Pull my finger.
Bleak though. If you aren't prepped for a bleak movie, it could be a real downer. _________________ Namaste,

It's called Strawberry Cough!
Does anyone know if Michael Caine's character (Jasper) was a member of The Human Project? Remember the midwife told Theo that only Julian could get in touch with her THP contact, who would then get in touch with their contact and so on down the line. Didn't Jasper facilitate their escape to the prison and eventually the THP boat? Maybe it was explained and I just missed it. _________________ This space is reserved for inarticulate meat puppets who have no true perspective outside the refuge of quotation marks.
