I suspect you can't change it until you've made a few more posts, but I'm not sure how many.

Really? Have you picked the right profile page? There is two of them. One in which you can change nothing and another one only accesable from the menu under the title at the top of the page. That's the only one you can change stuff in. If you can't change 'custom rank' there, it's probably a question of making enough posts until you can.
