I turned away from God and Church all together, yes I did believe in him, just did not want anything to do with him or his people (frame of mind at that point)

Then you were never an atheist/agnostic.

Until I realized I was swaying my stance based on peoples actions an attitudes not on the actual God.

In which case, your reason for believing are emotional, and by default not based on reason.

The Pastors receive very minimal pay and work ungodly hours, the money goes to the society to help the people, we lead our church with a force of showing the difference by example, we dont ask the governent for help, we start the projects and see the governemnt jump in for the marketing opportunity but in the end we get what we want done, and it helps the final user, the people wether believers or not, we have Atheist working side by side with us, why? because we are helping people no matter what, we treat people the same, all.

Helping out or not does little to sway reasons for believing or not, although it works well with PR.

I was an Atheist prior to convertion, yes, I did grow up with a Catholic grandmother and simply would not by into it. for many years (31). Was I tolerant of the church? sure, I have always separated people beliefs from their worth, always.

I find it hard to believe that you were an atheist to begin with. I imagine that a sort of "newage" belief that there was a "higher order" or some such belief system prior to converting to Christianity. My reason for thinking that is because once you've realized that the whole universe down to ones own ego are merely electro-chemical reactions occurring in matter - there's no turning back, IMO. Nothing short of brain damage would convince me otherwise.

When I came to the Christian church (charismatic) I saw a different thing, a love equaled tonone I had ever felt, and then realized wht the real love of God was.

That's emotional reasons for believing and has nothing to do with facts.

One can do all that without believing in fiction. You were never an atheist.

This is an older thread and Newman hasn't been here for months. Just thought I would mention that for those of you who wonder why you might not get a reply. Of course he might stop by. I would love that.

To all the theists out there...if a non-believer came to you and honestly wanted to hear God or know he was there, what would you recommend?

It would take a conversation of getting to know you and what you believe and then I would direct you according to information that I would get from you. It's not a one minute or one hour revelation. It could take years. It took me years. But I enjoyed the journey of discovery so it was all fun.

That's called considence influenced by the unconscious mind set up by a series of events or actions that have occurred between that time and the time a "revelation" happens. All events are triggered by outside stimuli matched by character traits, chance, and time along with the desire to want something happen.

Revelation: Science.
