'I can't give you the morning-after pill - it's against my religion', Asian pharmacist tells woman

Quote:
A woman was left embarrassed when a Tesco pharmacist refused to give her the morning-after pill because it was against his religious beliefs.

The mother-of-two was turned away from a branch of the giant supermarket chain by a locum pharmacist working within the store's dispensary.

While Tesco has apologised, it says the pharmacist was acting within his rights under an industry code of ethics.

Quote:
A spokesman for the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) said: 'The Code of Ethics and Standards does not require a pharmacist to provide a service that is contrary to their religious or moral beliefs.'

Well, we are certainly multicultural.

Heh. Asian pharmacist. Must have been a Taoist.

In another news there was a Somali (Shinto) suing Tesco for having to transport alcohol in the warehouse.
Can a Somali be labelled as Asian? Probably.

.

why would they do that?

THIS way, they get to enforce their beliefs on others... which is the fun part.

No need, the protected people have special rights and privileges, not available to mere mortals.
Even polygamy, with extra welfare benefits. Nice to know that my taxes going to a good cause.

It is worth "reverting" to the one true religion. Think of all the things you cannot have as an infidel!

Allah knows best.

I wonder if this cultural sensitivity would extend to a Christian or Jewish employee should s/he decide to use religion this way.
Or would they be told to take a hike.

I blame the socialist (Marxist) Labour party.

But.

Having said that, there will be no change with the conservatives either.
In fact, any politician even mentioning the gorilla in the room, can kiss his/her political career good bye.

The UK has lost its sovereignty to the EU long time ago. The EU wants Eurabia. No escape.

N,B. America is going the same way. It will take a bit longer.

No, it won't happen here because of the strong belief in separation of church and state. We have Muslim cases frequently in our news and our employers do give them a chance but eventually they will get the axe. The case of the having to move alcohol around would never get to a lawsuit here. Target did accomodate Muslim checkers so that they could work other jobs so they wouldn't have to scan pork and whatever else was the problem. But that was a courtesy of the company not a law.

We had taxi drivers in Minneapolis St. Paul airport who didn't want to drive customers who were bringing in alcohol from other countries. They were allowed this for awhile but had to go to the back of the line to get their next fare. A task force then decided a couple of months later that they had to find other jobs.

No lawsuit because they aren't doing their job.

As far as pharmacies, that is a different scenario. Since they can't get a different job that uses their skill, they are given the right to refuse in our country as well. Most places always make certain that there is a pharmacist on duty at the same time that will give out the questionable medicines.

To whomever asked about the morning after pill being OTC, it almost was in this country but didn't make it. It is in some countries and I believe they are still trying to get it to be that way here. I would like to see that happen.

Fuck them. I'm sure their local McDonald's is hiring. If you're not qualified or willing to do the job you were hired for, you shouldn't be surprised when you get fired.

That story is ridiculous. The needs of the patient/consumer come before everything else. Wtf. How can that asshole do that with a straight face? If I was there I would have pushed over an isle on the way out. I just hope isles in GB aren't much bigger than those here in SA.

I don't want to fuck anybody in a drugstore, is that ok? Probably against their religion also Smile

You missed what I said. They are allowed by the companies that hire them. In other words the right to refuse is part of their companies policy so who is there to fire them? If you protest that strongly then boycott that store. This has been the case in this country for years. Is this the first that you heard of it?

It is also an ethical question that even atheists disagree about although there are not so many of the latter. I like that they can refuse because there is a possible real harm possible in the pill. I am definitely for it and think it should be available without prescription.

A pharmacy is Olympia, WA called Ralph's Triftway refused to even carry the morning after pill, and has lost lots of business for refusing to carry due to their right wing Christian beliefs. Fortunately, Olympia is a hotbed of atheism.
