Does talking out of your ass come naturally? New ideas are developed all the time.

I don't think so.

That's the same as a theist saying "prove there is no god"

The response is the same; you're the one making the claim, the burden of proof is yours. Cool

Lots of luck with that. Twisted Evil

There is a lot of recontextualization, but not a lot of new fields of philosophy. Its still the same old list of metaphysics, epistemology, etc. And within those fields there are so many theories designed to invalidate the field itself. atheori

Not exactly.

In, "prove there is no god", one is asked to prove that something doesn't exist, which is unfair and impractical, as one would need to explore the whole universe to do so -- see, no God in the oceans; see, no god on moon; see, no god on Andromeda, etc.

In my case, I'm not asking to prove something that doesn't exist. It's an assertion: everything is illusion, including that sentence. IOW, anything you can throw at me IS an illusion. Now, prove me wrong.

EDIT: see, philosophy CAN be useful....Twisted Evil

Nah, I'll stick with my position.

Besides, I think your proposition is unprovable,or at least pointless,as you would not accept any proposition made..

[quote] IOW, anything you can throw at me IS an illusion [quote]

However,I'm sure CL will be delighted to point out the error in my thinking..

I do hope you're not offended by my not accepting your answer. After all, YOU'RE not a real philosopher,as is our Chaos Lord. HE'S at University! Twisted Evil

Seriously, you're not even trying to understand the other side of the argument. In fact, you're not even trying to understand philosophy at all. You just dismiss it based of prior conceptions and block out anything else.

Philosophy is important. It gave rise to math and science, for one. Sure, it is full of a bunch of postmodernist idiots who get together in cocktail parties talking about how E=mc2 is a sexist equation. But that is not what philosophy is about.

How do you know you exist?
How do you know the world exists?
How do you get reliable knowledge regarding the world?
What makes something ethical or moral?

These questions all fall at least partly under philosophy. They sound dumb to an anti-intellectual but they are important. Without philosophy, you can't be sure of anything at all.
