I am rather confused and interested in what you guys have to say.. A close friend and I were talking...and what he said blew me away...
He believes in a creator... but hates religion... can someone please explain this to me.. _________________ "I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god then you do. Lots of people feel that way. Why did that "blow" you away? |

Because last I checked God doesn't need theism to exist as a concept or in actuality.

He sounds agnostic to me. I know of lot of people like that around my age group, they dislike organized religion but personally hold to a mish-mash of beliefs.
Did he state why he believed in a creator and what it was about religion he disliked? _________________ "Not everything that steps out of line, and thus 'abnormal', must necessarily be 'inferior'" - Hans Asperger, 1938

Maybe he just isn't a fan of organised religion.

Confused,? Yes,I'd say so.
Beginning with confusing "advice" and "information"
There is no contradiction.
Get hold of a dictionary,or go to wikipedia, and look at
"theism"
Then look at "religion" |

Sounds like a deist to me /shrug. _________________ "Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, underwhich weak minds are servilely crouched. With the lack of information available there is no way you could make a rational conclusion that this person is agnostic and I suggest you talk to an agnostic or research agnosticism before you make a fool of yourself in front of a real agnostic. Dislike of organised religion isn't criteria for being agnostic or do all agnostics have a heterogeneous mixture of beliefs. |

Rask, your aren't alone.
This is the first thing I thought of as well. Deism is far different than theism.
Of course, it's just another way to fit the supernatural into life which exists without any help, but that's what makes me an atheist and not a deist or theist. _________________

Man, that is really normal. Many people believe in god, but not in religion. Maybe because is too hard to follow rules and believe in something that could open the heaven doors. _________________ R.I.P. Piero. We'll always remember you <3. |

so when someone, who IS an atheist, tries to describe to you what atheism is, you blow it off and use an internet dictionary's definition instead..
BUT...people should come to YOU, a 'real agnostic', for what an agnostic is?
