Right now, I have just spent the last 40 minutes arguing with my mom, so I need to vent, and ask... why the fuck do I suck at life SOOOO fucking bad? I am being told I should just go for a GED, I spend most of my days asleep (I just woke up after a 26 hour night) because I dont feel like dealing with all this shit, I only weigh about 105 pounds (use to be 130), I spend most of my time in solitude, and no matter how hard I try, I always fuck up in school. I am beginning to think I need to see a doctor or something, because the only emotions I have felt for the last 2 days was a mix of sadness and hopeless despair, along with random spurts of nearly uncontrolable anger.

What I dont get is... I try in school. I really do. But for some reason, I always fucking fail a couple of classes every couple of years (failed 6th grade, 8th grade, and now I failed 3 classes in 10th). WHY? I am inelligent (I was reading books like The Phantom of the Opera and Dr. Doolittle (The guy who can talk to animals, think thats which it was) back in 3rd grade), but when it comes to math or spanish... I FUCKING SUCK. And for some reason, I always get shit for those two, even though I am insane at everything else.

My years grades...
English: 95
World History and World Geo:98
Drama:98 (easy class though)
Goverment: 99 (I missed one question the entire class [Did it in summer school])
Economics: 96
American History: 85 (I found it boring)
Math: 48
Spanish:21

...what the fuck is with that? Why am I so fucking bad at math and other langagues? Is there like a mental disorder that causes that shit?

(I am being yelled at to hurry up, so will finish my rant later)

I was bored shitless in school. I have a high IQ, but was never really interested in some subjects. I never had a decent math teacher. Some people do not test well, even if they know the material.
Maybe talk to a school councilor?

Hang in there, in a few years none of that sit will matter.

Those numbers mean nothing to The Rick Copeland. Please put them in context...

One thing I can recommend you, if you're willing to do extra work (yep, the big word "work") is to get Schaum's Outline of Elementary Algebra . There at are lots of examples worked out for you, and plenty of exercises if you want to do them. But it covers just about everything you need to know in high school ( I presume you are in high school).

Not meaning to pile on here, and I know it's just a typo, but that made me lol.

lol, shit, I ALWAYS typo something like that.

Well, I talked to my new school's... class assigin' lady, and she had no idea why they would say I need to get a GED, which cleared up most of my pissed offness (Besides the fact my mom felt she needed to rub it in my face that I need a GED and not a real diploma).

And, they say I dont have to shave or cut my hair at the new school! SCOOOOOORE!

Life is fine agian.

@Shiranu:

I passed maths after grade 7 exactly once,in year 9.

BUt, I was Dux (top) in English and History. This is not uncommon. Nor does the poor maths results in such cases have anything to do with intelligence.--if it were a matter of intelligence, a person would not be an A student in other subjects, especially in high school.

At university,at age 29, part of a year was in Logic, which is a form of algebra. I was stuffed, failing badly. I sought help. My professor gave me private tuition, from scratch.

After the first ten minutes he said "I know what your problem is; You can't do it if you don't understand it. I'm like that". I thought everyone was like that. Apparently not.

I never came to like formal logic, but I passed the final exam, which was open book..

My problem with math seems to have come from; (1) The conviction that I was stupid. I'm not. (2) I've only ever been good at subjects in which I have no interest. Maths does not interest me..(3) maths is traditionally taught a specific way,for a the most common type of mind.

Often people lacking strong Maths skills often seem to think differently,(possibly a different side of the brain being dominant) and can be taught Maths to a moderate level (well above high school) with a different approach.

I concentrated on my strengths -and yeah,I got shit from my dad all the time, for years. One did not argue with dad.

I was not good at languages either,at school, getting to survival level French. Since leaving school, I have studied three other languages formally ; Malay, Vietnamese, and Italian. I get by in Malaysia, France and Italy.(just) My Vietnamese is hopeless; it's tonal, and I don't have the ear.

Learning a language at high school can be almost impossible unless one has a natural facility,or a gifted teacher. One-on-one is better.Immersion ever better.

Languages are NOT hard IF one is interested. IF one has an average intelligence one CAN learn most things, IF one has; Motivation (No one can MAKE us want to do anything) Focus; ability to concentrate on the topic for long periods, and the willingness to work your arse off--and commitment to finish what you start..

Sadly, this does not describe me very often, but sometimes it does: I left school at 17,without having completed year 12 and stared work full time..I finished high school at night.I then spent a further 13 years studying first at Business College, then at university, studying a discipline about which I was and remain passionate;Cultural Anthropology..

I've shared this stuff with you just in case there are any similarities, and hopefully lessen your distress.

Haha, yeah... I think differently about most things.

The emotional stress is just branching off this, "Oh, just give up and get a GED bullshit" my mom has been telling me the last couple of days because I didn't have enough credits to be a senior.

Went to regester today...

...and I have only taken 2 years of highschool, no wonder I dont have 3 years worth of credits. I actually have a sophmore's and a half.

And she refuses to fucking appolgize for harassing me over and over.

Yes, im an idiot for sucking in 2 classes, and the fact my IQ is supose to be 143... yep yep! (Frankly, I dont put any stock in the IQ test, but w/e).

Also, forgot my science grades...

Bio: 87
Intergrated Physics and Chemistry: 84
(these two were after lunch, and I was generally high, so I felt I did good).

I myself failed Spanish and I was terrible at math in highschool. My recommendation: find your interest and use it as a frame of reference.

I've been obsessed with computer programming since as long as I can remember. Learning calculus is hard, learning calculus to understand how to calculate Bézier curves is easy Very Happy
