|
|
Dawkadoodle was recently banned over a technicality arising from an issue concerning flaming in an introduction thread.
The administrators and moderators discussed this and came to a few conclusions.
a. Although the mods feel some action was necessary regarding this situation, the banning was not covered by the present rules
b. The banning is to be reverted
c. Flaming in introduction threads and some other contexts is especially unwanted and we need to adress that
d. The present rules do not provide the admins and mods with sufficient handles to adress the issue of flaming.
Therefore:
a. Dawkadoodle is reinstated
b. The Introduction threads are provisionarily placed under Love Shack rules forthwith.
c. Other forums may follow.
d. New rules that will empower the admins and mods to positively handle these situations in the future are being discussed.
e. Cheapsurprise agrees to refrain from moderating for an indefinite period

so what cheap keeps his mod status because he promised?
did he not promise to stop abusing his mod status last time he acted like this or something
although intro threads being treated like the love shack is a good idea _________________

I usually don't agee with Dawkadoodle, but I don't think he should be banned. I am glad he's been reinstated.
I think it's a good idea not to allow flaming in Intro threads. |

When I saw Cheap ban Dawk, well, I almost posted a "way to go!". The circumstance wasn't ideal, but, I wasn't sorry to see him go. But, if he's back, so what. I just have him on "mental ignore". _________________ Please visit my site at www.caseagainstfaith.com featuring critiques of Lee Strobel and other apologetics

Makes no difference to me either way. Seeing...

Oh. By the way, the click here bit on the ignore list message... it doesn't work (not a huge issue), been meaning to mention that for a while though and I keep forgetting. _________________

I think this is a suitable solution. It's a difficult situation that requires difficult decisions, and I commend the mods for thinking it through and doing their best to address it.
The circumstances surrounding Dawk's banning were regrettable. That said, I understand where Cheap was coming from and why he did what he did.
It's my opinion that Cheap's actions would have been a positive for the community as a whole if only he had framed them in the right context. Unfortunately he chose a more inflammatory course of action, but I can see what his motivations were, and not all of them were ignoble. For that I will commend him, even though I must qualify that statement by saying I disagree with the context of this particular banning. _________________ "Agnostics: Atheists without balls." -Stephen Colbert |

Thanks Gnosis. It is a difficult balance, and we will occasionally take mis-steps even though our goals are noble. Just bear with us and try to remember that we are doing our best to take the forums where we believe most of us want it to go. _________________
