Now, I've looked at enough stuff evolution and am satisfied. I don't have to justify myself to anyone about it, that is up to others to use their own brains and not fight with me about stuff I've read, programmes I've watched and things I've seen which can't suddenly fall from my mouth into a wondrous intellectual summary. My brain is not a computer.
I thought a christian friend of mine had more intelligence than her storming out of my door last night muttering 'monkeys'
What is it with these people?
Try to explain all these changes happened over millions of years, you can't actually see great changes happening in your lifetime, evolution is not just about life anyway-evolution was happening before life came about...and blah blah... understands so far and then wham!. 'How can you tell me that a fish suddenly became a monkey and monkeys are still around so we can't have descended from monkeys' storms out...
I didn't even mention monkeys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't have time to say anything.
Runaway, runaway from this 'god awful' truth....quick runaway to where I can open my bible and pray for the sin that just happened.
BIG FUCKING GROWL.

What the fuck is up with her?
Still pissed off big time as she ran away like a bloody kid.

Christians get just as frustrated about it as we do. Because they 'know' the truth. They 'know' that evolutionists are delusional.

Remember that they have been lectured to by other christians and had anti-evolutionary 'arguments' fed to them by their pastor, they have been convinced beyond all doubt that evolution is just some stupid idea that some monkey loving guy came up with.

So they take these dodgy arguments that their pastor has given them, and they try using them on an evolutionist. The christians argument falls flat on its face within seconds.

They 'know' they are right so they get frustrated because they can't remember the exact words their pastor so eloquently used when he was bashing evolution at church last sunday.

So they quickly retreat back to the only thing they really know for sure, that somewhere monkeys are involved, and therefore out comes the last line of defence "omg you think we come from monkees!".

But that's what i don't get, she agrees and understands most things about evolution and knows the earth is a lot older than a few thousand years-and yet all i had last night was confrontation, 'how does anyone know-it's all guess work...' kind of thing and then a resort to why haven't fish got arms and more crap-realzed at that point...holy crap..she knows nothing.

I just emailed pictures of different stages of salamander fish with arms and legs to land salamanders living at the same time, in a different environment and therefore at a different stage of growth.
This done in temper and probably meaningless but all I could find for now-need to cool down Laughing

i think your friend has probably run away because she may feel her beliefs are under threat from evolution

she may be very fond of her beliefs and not want them changed, this may be why she muttered monkeys, in her own head she might be trying to convince herself that evolution is ridiculous by making shit up about it

If you suspect you will get anywhere by trying to educate her, I'm not sure if showing examples of transitional species etc is going to help at the moment. To a christian without a working knowledge of evolution, it's going to sound too far fetched for her and probably push her away.

You really need to go back to the basics, make sure she really does understand the fundamentals of natural selection and genetic mutation. Working from the ground up is the best way.

Aye, I find it is best to not show them, "Fish, lizard, rat, monkey, human" etc. charts before they understand WHY fish to lizard, lizard to rat, etc. etc. With out a asic understanding, they assume, "Fish INSTANT LIZARD ZOMG MAGIC!" not, "Oh, hey, a mutation allowed fish to process oxygen, this fish had babies, some of these babies later learned they could go on the shore, began to pocreate, and soon" (At least, thats how I think it went atm, its 7 in the morning, so im not thinking all that fast atm), and so on and so on.
