I think that this has more to do with the creationists misrepresentation of the phrase "Survival of the fittest." to mean the survival of the strongest or smartest when in fact it is neither. It is survival of the most responsive to change.

You're not thinking like an Islamist. Evolution causes violence because it leads to atheism and therefore Islamists must kill the infidels. If only they would give up Darwin and accept Islam, there wouldn't be any violence. See? Makes sense.

Gimme a fuckin' break. These ass-clowns understand NOTHING of evolution. Seriously, people possibly get more thrown off by the concept of Darwinian fitness than any other concept in biology. Everyone needs to read a good evolutionary biology text-- or at least "The Selfish Gene"...

Actually Darwin didn't originate that phrase, "Survival of the Fittest". It was Herbert Spencer a British economist who first coined it in his book 'Principles of Biology' in 1864. Darwin commented on the phrase by saying that survival of the fittest wasn't survival of the strongest, no of the most intelligent, but of the most responsive to change. Darwin's big thing was 'Natural Selection'.

It was the part "Darwinian fitness" made it sound as if it was part of his theory. When you say that people tend to think of SOTF as being it. Many creationists use SOTF as an example to say that Darwin's theory of Evolution is immoral when in fact it wasn't part of his theory at all.
