Nice! Were your parents just open minded, or were you just a smart little kid? _________________ With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion. - Steven Weinberg |

When I started thinking outside the book. It took only one reading cover to cover for me to realize it was not the word of any God. I didn't stop believing in some kind of a God, but the Bible God wasn't it. I finally came to read enough books that convinced me that rational thought might uncover the Truth, but supernatural religions never could. Ockam's razor was the last straw in my search for the supernatural - the universe was more parsimonious without such a realm, so I stopped searching for one. _________________ Only those with weak faith feel threatened by those with no faith.

Well, I began doubting my beliefs when I was seven, I stopped believing when I was 15. _________________ "What I'm saying is, if God wanted to send us a message, and ancient writings were the only way he could think of doing it, he could have done a better job." --Carl Sagan

I'm sorry, former wife of Adam: I believe in plenty of things. It's one third of JTB, and it's one half of desiire utilitarianism.
FFS, new mods... does this really belong in EOM? Stop being so fucking lazy, you n00bs. DIAF. Srsly. (not you, Lilith - I'm just finding the new moderators here to be uber-lazy... that's all...) _________________ Ass!

Maybe the answers are entertaining?
I would move it but haven't decided where yet. Since philo just wanted to throw rotten tomatoes at us newbies and not give us a clue, we're left to our imaginations. I expect general is fine and will do that and if any long time mod wants it elsewhere I respect the additional move will be made.
Hmmm, then again I could always move it to "New Age" since it is a "new" worldview for many of the posters! |

Well i never really called myself a true Atheist till my 7th grade year (i was 12 i think) but before i never really had any faith in god, i grew up in a christian family that went to church but never prayed. And thinking about something that happened when i was at least 6 or 7 i noticed that i really hated all christians, i remember my dad taking me and my older brother in a room in my house in the dark and hitting and screamed at us until we prayed for all these people. I started noticing that if that is how God intended it then he was not a nice person and i didnt want anything to do with him. I grew up a bit and started thinking for myself and just recently i found this place and now i read and learn about it alot more. _________________ In all things that are purely social we can be as seperate as fingers, yet one as the hand in all things essential to mutual progress. - Booker T. I lost faith in Jesus when I was 21. Since that time, I've evolved from a deist to an agnostic atheist; a transition that took more than a decade. _________________ He flexed his muscles to keep his flock of sheep in line

About a year ago, maybe a little less. My parents never cared much for the preachy church types, but my grandmother insisted that I go to Sunday School every week and that I waste a week of every summer going to "Vacation Bible School". There was always a part of me that knew none of it was real, so I was a little surprised when I found out that everyone but me was taking it very seriously. I left that church when I was about ten years old (my grandmother has been begging me to go back ever since), and I lost all interest in religion. I would still fall back on prayer and stuff when I wanted something, but I really didn't care anymore. A little over a year ago, I decided it was worth looking into again. I read arguments from both sides, and after a few months I decided that atheism was the more logical route. _________________ Regarding creationists: Aren't these the same people who gave us alchemy and astrology, and who told us the earth, besides being flat, was at the center of the universe?
