Those could be good, would you have a scholar on those subjects come in?

Not that I've read a lot on the Greeks, but I enjoyed David Roochnik's "Retrieving the Ancients", which uses a dialectical presentation of Greek philosophy. Maybe check him out (though I have no idea if he's a good lecturer). Hope you're able to put together a good series of shows, the tentative schedule looks interesting.

History of philosophy would be awesome, so long as it goes into a lot of depth, and doesn't, ya know, go from Socrates to Derrida in three shows. Wink

And qualified guests would be great, if you can find 'em. I'm particularly interested in scholastic philosophy. I kind of skipped over it in college as I kind of thought all of 'em seemed completely full of shit, but if you can get somebody interesting to cover it, it would save me the trouble of having to read Abelard or something myself (though I did read some book about Abelard and Heloise in my first year of college, but it was for a European Civ class, and had little to do with philosophy). (3) Show topic: "Is Consciousness a Black Box for Naturalism?" - originally we hoped that Daniel Dennett would do this show. However, he's overbooked, so we've e-mailed Dennett back for his recommendation of a substitute.

You might want to get someone who understands memes, such as Susan Blackmore. Any theory of consciousness which cannot accomodate memes seems to me like it would treat consciousness as somewhat of a black box, but memes allow for many possible naturalistic explanations of consciousness.

(7) Show topic: An Introduction to Modern Cosmology. While we know of plenty people who could talk about this subject, we want to find someone entertaining - who will keep you on your feet while he or she talks on this subject.

I suggest someone like Neil deGrasse Tyson or someone with a similar enthusiasm and gift for explanation. He's the closest thing we have to Sagan, IMO.

(2) The God Delusion? - Richard Dawkins & William Lane Craig, an informal debate/discussion.

If you can get WLC on, Bob Price or another Biblical scholar (Earl Doherty maybe?) would be better for debating against him. Much as I'd enjoy hearing Dawkins, I don't think he has the Biblical knowledge for a good debate against WLC.

Put me down as another vote for a few history of philosophy shows.

Oh - also, I have another suggestion (besides finding another producer): any exploration and mild debate/discussion of non-Christian religions. Let's hear more about Buddhism, Hinduism, Mormonism, Taoism, etc. Also, perhaps a Catholic explaining and defending their beliefs (not against the typical atheist "LOLZ - god is stupid" arguments, of course - but against more religion-specific objections) would be good.

In short, I think learning about non-protestant religions would be worthwhile.

Wow, this all sounds really exciting. I'd really appreciate anything on the analytic tradition in general and philosophy of mind, but overall general history (if taken slowly and in-depth) would be wonderful. I think it might also be useful to hit up some more abstract areas of theoretical physics, especially since QM is so abused (I'm thinking string theory, nanotech, quantum mechanics, relativity, etc.)

This might be a dumb question, but...

Where's the site where all this is going down?

tbh all the suggestions thus far sound good. Add me as another history of Philosophy voter.
I'd like to expand the British empiricist show to maybe cover the whole Scottish enlightenment; Hume, Adam Smith etc. (or maybe a separate show?)

I'd also like to hear something on Anthropology of religion too, maybe Pascal Boyer?

I totally agree with this (except for the other producer part. you're just prejudice against my superior looks.)

Okay, so how about shows on the following topics, then:

(1) British Empiricism

(2) The Scottish Enlightenment

^ Different aspects of the life and thought of Hume can be emphasized in the two shows. And Reid, et. al. will be stressed more in Show (2).

(3) Introducing Hindu Philosophy

(4) Introducing Buddhist Philosophy (at an intermediary level, since we already have a couple of shows on Buddhism available in the archive. In fact, we could have a couple of shows on this topic, giving a semi-systematic introduction to the main traditions, arguments, and thoughts of Buddhism and its greatest thinkers).

(5) Analytic Philosophy - The Vienna Circle and Its Predecessors (per NeuralLick's request).

(6) Greek Philosophy - From the Ionians through Aristotle (perhaps two shows should be made out of this, that's a lot of material to cover!)

(7) Introducing Daoist Philosophy

(8.) 19th Century Philosophy & Science - basically, on the lives of the existentialists and their thoughts, as well as the science going on at the time, and what the results of this were.

(9) A Defense of Catholicism - Linda Zagzebski (per Greg's request).

I imagine you'll end up seeing Charles Goodman again, for Show idea (4). Linda Zagzebski is one of the foremost Catholic philosophers of today. I'm sure there are plenty entertaining and educational philosophers who can discuss the other shows.

The show on "Introducing Modern Cosmology", well, I like Natural's suggestion about Neil Tyson - I've got his contact info, and will be giving him a ring soon.

Not sure what to do about Game Theory Confused

Hah. Laz, don't worry about it if it's too difficult. It sounds like you're already planning an amazing line-up of shows.

(And I found the InfidelRadio page from infidelguy.com, so no worries.)

Nicholas Rescher discussing pragmatism would be good, if you could get him.

If you'd be willing to expand to choice theory, I'd recommend Michael Allingham, author of Choice Theory: A Very Short Introduction. His contact info can be found here.
