I'm for free-speech. this means if you want to burn a flag, its your right. same as flying upside down to signify distress, or even if its to say down with america.

so whether its disrespectful is moot.

the point is you should be free to express your opinions.

exactly. i tried to explain the freedom of speech but they said it was bullshit and while we're partying they have kids my age dying for that flag. it's ironic because my mother said to never join the military and hate the government and i told her i wasn't disrespecting any of the soldiers who died... they don't get the picture it seems.

you should have told your parents that those soldiers are (at least supposedly) dying for what that flag stands for which is liberty (like free-speech for example). not the flag itself.

The Rick Copeland is somewhat of a Marxist, if by that you mean of the Grouchomarxism variety. He'd love to cordon off Therickcopelanlandland and rule it as his own private Freedonia... Although his own little Sealand would be rad as well...

The Rick Copeland wins every argument by simply saying "oh, yeah? You and what army?". Works every time...

Here're a few examples:

Other dude: "I think the war on/ of terror is making America safer. We have Al Qaida on the run."
The Rick Copeland: "Oh, yeah? You and what army?"

The Rick Copeland's girlfriend: "The Rick Copeland, where do you want to go for dinner?"
The Rick Copeland: "Oh, yeah? You and what army?"

Register jockey guy: "Would you like to super size that for only two cents?"
The Rick Copeland: "Oh yeah? You and what army?"

There is no situation in which that line fails. None. Nada. Bupkis...

I've never really cared. The flag doesn't mean much to me, just like the Pledge and the National Anthem don't mean much after they've been repeated fifty-thousand emotionless times. If someone wants to hang a flag upside down, I set let them.

Anybody who says something like that, I tell them kids are dying because of the Bush crime family and the morons who put them in office -- period.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry about what kind of "signal" a piece of multi-colored cloth made in sweat-shops in Indonesia is sending out...

As demonstrated in an episode of Scrubs, "So's your face" also works in any argument.

"But that doesn't make any sense."
"So's your face."

pwned.

Remind the parent that the Bush elder has a flag sewn inside his jacket, and equally offensive display, yet when done by the powerful apparantly is patriotic, when done by real patriots however, it is considered blashphemy.
