Awesome...
But one thing is missing. What's a big ship and a bunch of guys without good olde fashioned sodomy?
You should make one of your guys on the ship look like Moloth taking a photo of himself...

You left out rum and the lash, as per:
"The only traditions of the Royal Navy are rum, sodomy and the lash."
What fun is sodomy without rum and the lash to go with it? |
Yup, without the rum and the lash it just looks like the american prison system. _________________ "What I'm saying is, if God wanted to send us a message, and ancient writings were the only way he could think of doing it, he could have done a better job." --Carl Sagan

The stern chasers did not come with the kit, I took a brass one and made a mold, then cast a couple more in resin. It took me months of research to figure out how the chain really goes...thanks to some guy on flikr.com who went below ground and took a photo. (damn spaceball!!!)still have not located the other end of the rope. It was used as a back up in case the main controls were shot away. Now I can do the touch up paint on the stern. This camera really sucks in close. I started the detail painting on the stern and also got the lanterns on. The masts are about ready for details and as soon as I get the main paint stripes on the sides done, I can start the rat lines and standing rigging. This is where the tough part starts and all the other work pays off. 927 hours in. close to 1/3 the estimated time WITHOUT sails.
Instead of trashing the first launch I made, I decided to cut off the mistakes and make it an armed launch replacing the crank thingie with a cannon and different sails. The new one has the fruit etc. and will be the one being retrieved. The armed one will be placed under the starboard stairs.
The pinnace, and barge are coming along nice. The 18' cutter needs rigging and the 28' cutters are planked, now the inside of one and a canvas cover for the other, one stowed one being retrieved on the quarter davits.
I got the first six ropes on the spritsail. I'll also air brush the dull coat so the figures aren't shiny like Moloth's fore head. Fake lookin honkey.
I'm about out of parts....Ready for the details FINALLY!!! WOot WOoot!

Not much time lately..progress is slow, BUT I got the yards made and painted and test fitted them today.
The good news is they fit, the bad news is if I put them on I'll never get it out of the basement....yeesh. close to 30" wide, 56" long and 45"ish high. Might have to finish it in the living room, lol

1,014 hours in. All nets are sewn in, Port cutter is on, first shrouds, more anchor work is almost complete. I have been experimenting with the tackle to lift the huge launch boat.
The next step is detail painting of the entire ship and shroud work. I also need to get the cannon port lids going.
I’m experimenting with the sails too. Woot Woot!
I’m about half way done!

1,049 hours in. Well, Friday on the Port, Saturday on the Starboard, All the cannon port lids are roughed in. I did away with the kit method and hinged each one with pins and drilling them instead of faking them. It looks a lot better, plus I contoured each one to match the hull at the wales instead of leaving them flat.
That was a step I have been putting off and dreading. 16 hours of doing the same thing over and over but I’m glad it’s done. Now I have to build the rings and make the ropes to tie them up, then paint them. I decided to dock an extra boat under the door and have people climbing aboard. Onwards with the shrouds. Woot Woot!

That's an incredible amount of work you've put into this! You originally mentioned you might sell it, do you still feel the same way after all those hours? I know I wouldn't be able to part with it. It's beautiful! _________________ "The greatest tragedy in mankind's entire history may be the hijacking of morality by religion."

Baddogma,
When you finally sell it, how much do you think you actually made off it, in terms of an hourly wage? _________________ “I think it’s also important for the President to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn.”

WoW! Bd, that's fantastic!
May may I have it?
Certainly beats my accomplishment this week.---
I taught myself to yodel. (really) I recently saw an interview with one of the Schneider sisters. She explained how. It's' really simple. When you think about it that's not at all surprising.
Next week I'm going to have a go at doing it on key. Keeping time comes much later,if at all..

The persistence is paying off. Now for finding that huge bottle...
On the other side of the impressive spectrum, I once saw an exhibition featuring the wooden micro-models of navy vessels and other boats. Hundreds of them, all made from scrapwood. I especially remember one micro-ship that was small enough to fit into (and indeed placed inside) a teeny lightbulb. _________________ ~ Let us be reasonable ~

If you plan on selling it, do tell me, I might like to buy it, I like to collect wooden ships.
(If you are planning on keeping it, im completely okay with that, I could NOT see me ever selling anything like that.) _________________ "I never really wanted you to see, The screwed up side of me that I keep...Locked inside of me so deep...It always seems to get to me.
