|
|
| Is it wrong to display the American flag upside down? I had a party the other day and someone was wearing an American flag so i took it an hung it upside down. My parents woke up the next day and freaked out. I tried to explain to them that it wasn't a sign of disrespect for the soldiers and the flag code permitted it okay in signs of distress but they kept bitching... do any of you guys think that hanging a flag upside down is disrespectful? |

Technically, I think it is considered disrespectful unless you are actually in distress. It is also considered disrespectful to wear it _________________ "What I'm saying is, if God wanted to send us a message, and ancient writings were the only way he could think of doing it, he could have done a better job." --Carl Sagan

I told my parents we were in distress because we didn't have any more beer and no one was capable of driving so we had to end the party at 3... they didn't buy it. _________________ "Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has" -Martin Luther

Who gives a fuck? Don't buy into the flag-worshiping, yellow-ribboned nationalistic bull shit that seems to pervade every bit of American life. It's a piece of cloth that could subjectively represent something to someone. What it represents to me is the ideals of this country that are currently be shit on every day by the people running it, and if someone doesn't like the shit-stained flag when it's rubbed in their noses, they're immediately labeled anti-American pinko commies by people whose IQ MIGHT exceed 87 but somehow got a job as a pundit/politician/campaigner.
[/rant]
Anyway, I wouldn't worry about what kind of "signal" a piece of multi-colored cloth made in sweat-shops in Indonesia is sending out... _________________ Above the hive, beyond the lynch mob, where two and two always make four. |

I'm for free-speech. this means if you want to burn a flag, its your right. same as flying upside down to signify distress, or even if its to say down with america.
so whether its disrespectful is moot.
the point is you should be free to express your opinions. |

But they should. That's serious business. About 2:30 or so you really start feeling in the beer zone. Here in Therickcopelandland they stop selling beer at 1:00. He has spent many an evening/ early morning at 12:40 pooling change with his friends to get to the store to buy those last cases of sweet, creamy beer... Yum... _________________ “I think it’s also important for the President to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn.”

exactly. i tried to explain the freedom of speech but they said it was bullshit and while we're partying they have kids my age dying for that flag. it's ironic because my mother said to never join the military and hate the government and i told her i wasn't disrespecting any of the soldiers who died... they don't get the picture it seems. |
