I just paid $4.25 a gallon here today (SoCal) at a shell station.
Fuck, i used to drive a 73 F-250 w/460 big block and a 750 cfm demon carb and open headers. That thing got about 2 miles per galon (you could race the gas gauge and the tach and flip a coin as to who won). Dual gas-tanks on that baby, it would be close to $200 to fill it up im thinking. My T-Bird is $80 and its only a 4.6l V8.
Meh, thats why i drive a ghetto 2.0l tempo to work now. |

Crude oil priced in US dollars
1 ounce = 28.35 grams
~ = approximate value
In 2000-2001, gold was ~$275/oz; crude oil was at ~$25/barrel
Now gold is ~$920/oz; crude oil at ~$125 barrel
If you crunch out the math the 2nd chart makes sense. The price of crude oil has been relatively stable to the price of gold. So if our currency was based on a gold standard, oil's price would stay about the same.

I'm basically a pedestrian, so i don't give a fuck about oil. OTOH, corn on the cob will become a delicacy for the rich... |

Nonetheless, it will still affect you, as oil is used for the multitude of product and services that you purchase.
The price of oil pushes up the price of transport of goods, public transport, utility services, food, most product use oil in their manufacturing process, so yes, it will still impact you in many ways.
I don't own a car either. (can't afford it, and it is not essential for me). _________________ “The hardest thing to explain is the glaringly evident which everybody had decided not to see.” - Ayn Rand |
