It is derived from labor, is it not? I hope one can demarcate derivation from a definition.

There's really still a lot of labor involved in designing, maintaining and deploying such equipment though.

Wasn't that one of Marx's predictions about how capitalism would fail? That labor would get pushed out by machines?

Of course there's still much labor involved in other processes, and there will continue to be so for a long time yet. The problem lies not there, but in the fact that much of the labor still performed by humans is menial labor. Once that mostly disappears, it will leave us with only the intellectual variety of labor, and I certainly don't think that will employ a large percentage of our ever growing population.

It may have been, I'm not sure. Other visionaries like Marshall Brain and Gene Roddenberry have had similar expectations for humanity's future. I think we (humanity on a global level) will reach a tipping point of needed labor verses automation. Once that forces enough unemployment, something dramatic will happen to our current ideals of economics.

Why are you asking me this? I couldn't give a shit about ownership or where it's derived from.

BTW, I also think the idea of a president is an antiquated projection of tribalism.

Where is ownership derived?

I gave this a little thought (not sure why) while I drove to the bank this afternoon.

Ownership seems to be a derivative of our intrinsic nature to enforce our will over certain objects or entities. Other animals, like pack animals, have similar tendencies; such as ants domesticate and use other insects of different species. Labor has become a mechanism by which we humans use to purchase ownership (basically contractual ownership). So I’d say ownership stems from the ability to enforce personal or group control over certain objects or entities. I don’t think it always stems from labor (as in work supplied for monetary remuneration), in the strictest sense.
