Wow, it could could it? It does explain where Yahweh's been mind you, all this time it's been busy 'taking care of' another load of intelligent life, ah that's okay then.
I like the idea of life in outer space, it would shock the hell out of any poor astronauts up there...
Isn't it just the most random statement ever? I mean really, why? why bother saying it, it's just pure conjecture, the astronomer brought no evidence, not even opinion, just that statement, what the hell?!?! |

Well, they are saying could exist, not does exist. That way, whether life on other planets is found to exist or not, they've covered all the bases.

The only thing I can see them doing at this conference (well, the main topic) would surely be evolution vs creationism and, unless they plan to do a major 180 on this subject, it would be hypocritical..(okay ironic maybe) for them to be defending creationism at their own Darwinian conference...
And the very idea just struck me as stupid... |

Most catholics aren't creationists; in fact, the Church has officially accepted the theory, and states that no contradiction exists between evolution and the Catholic faith.

Maybe this is their acknowledgment of the ascendence of atheism. Christianity is becoming more and more mocked as hypocritical, judgmental, and superstitious, and they have to adapt. Most people are just "spiritual," and everyone else is a mere peasant, and organized religion is becoming seen more and more as the culture of mere peasants.

And the Catholic Church has been trying anything they can to stem the flow of people, especially young ones, leaving the church. Apparently molesting them hasn't worked as well as they planned.
