After a disgustingly convoluted process, I'm finally going to be able to build a decent gaming machine. The games I'm really looking forward to playing are:
Bioshock
Oblivion
Portal/Half-Life 2
Hell, I might even get another CoD game...I only have the first one.
Thing is a $30 pad is expensive for a teenager surviving on allowance, so I'd like some input. Are the games worth it, and what other games should I try to get my paws on? _________________ Gender = Female

for those games your planning on buying then i wouldnt bother with a joy pad, they work much better with keyboard mouse combo imo
i would definitly get COD 4 : MW if you have a decent enough internet connection because the multiplayer is incredible but the single player is a little short but still excellent
oblivion and half life orange box are both excellent and must haves but i havent played bioshock so i wouldnt know,
i think oblivion needs a few user created mods to make it better but that might just be me being spoilt by them
i would avoid crysis and assassins creed though, i got them both and was very dissapointed with them
Tomb Raider : Legend was surprisingly good and it would also control better with a joypad if you still want one
thats all i can tihnk of off the top of me head but ill post some more if i tihnk of any _________________

I recommend an Xbox 360 controller (a wired one). _________________ MY YouTube Videos

i consider the Xbox 360 Elite controller to be an absolute marvel and pinnacle of ergonomics and design.
Its easily the most comfortable and usable machine interface that i've ever used. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

I'm actually not much of a gamer. In limited amounts, or social contexts (like WoW) I like it. But I don't like sitting still, being passive. I can't even stay still when I read. _________________ Gender = Female

Like Ryan said, for those particular games a Mouse and Keyboard would be far better. The only thing I used my gamepad for is playing my emulators.
BTW- Great choices for games. I have all three and all of them are kick ass games. _________________ "Not everything that steps out of line, and thus 'abnormal', must necessarily be 'inferior'" - Hans Asperger, 1938 |

Like they said, those games won't use a gamepad and even if they did it wouldn't be as fun.
Gamepads are good for titles which originated on consoles or are marked "Games for Windows".
I picked up a Playstation to USB thingie for like 10 bucks which lets you use the Dualshock2 controller on the PC, rumble functioned included
It's only really good for racing games and a few xbox360 ports. _________________ "Years ago, we hardly had anything to eat. Now I earn more money and see every opponent as a man that tries to put me back to that poorer period.
