Why is it so hard to comprehend that you OWN yourself? Am I really teetering on the brink of absurdity? If you don't own yourself, then someone else does, unless you consider "non-ownership"/nihilism into the set of possibilities.
Yeah, self ownership is a natural right, regardless of a divine monarch or a representative president. |

Tell me some guy who's name i've either never known or forgotten, who ever said that i did need a president?
why won't YOU tell ME why YOU need a president? after all, you've got one. and he is George W. Bush. congrats. _________________ -=The Believer is Happy; the Skeptic is Wise=-

Your avoidance of the question's revealing. You can't get around the Gettier problem with your natural rights!

If you don't need a president, then why would you vote for someone to rule over you?

Not my president, but nice faulty logic. |

It's taken Gettin' In Tune MINUTES, and he has yet to respond.
He might as well just admit defeat now. _________________ The whores and politicians will shout 'save us'...

|
The only reason a country needs a head of state is that in international diplomacy a state needs a person or an organ that represents the state towards other states.
That among with a few other things is the traditional role for the head of a state. In most countries the head of state also has the right to grant pardons and amnesties.
In some states these functions are not vested in a person but in an organ. That organ mostly has a chairman that performs the ceremonial functions of a head of state. For instance in the former GDR it was the Council of State that performed these functions and in a lot of communist countries, the function was vested in parliament or the supreme soviet. The chairman of the presidium of the parliament (say the speaker of the house) performed that function.
In most countries that have a monarchy, the monarch is the fount of all power (although he doesn't nessecarily holds actual power) and also performs the functions described.
Ghadaffi is formally not the head of state of Libya. Stalin was never the head of state of the Soviet Union. Likewise Kim is not the head of state in North Korea. The situation in Sweden is typical. Although Sweden has a King, he is not the person that performs the functions of the head of state. These are vested in the government and the speaker of the parliament.
Didn't the old Confederation have a "President of the United States in Congress assembled" before the constitution was enacted?

Yes, when it is enforced by majority through popular vote. |
I am talking about leaders in general, which are not always presidents. I am simply making the case that the reason the original founders included a figurehead for the nation is the tendency for people to look to individuals for leadership, rather than groups. _________________ "Agnostics: Atheists without balls." -Stephen Colbert |

You fail to identify the other sources of ownership, if it is not yourself. Please identify alternative sources of ownership than yourself; god, the collective, the Prez, or you mother? |

How is ownership necessarily relevant to sense of self? _________________ "Agnostics: Atheists without balls." -Stephen Colbert |

I find it to be a metaphor for classical liberalism.
