Hi, I'm Danny

I visit lots of different websites that cater to my various interests and enjoy reading articles or visiting the forums. I like photography, guitars, recording, and photoshop. All the sites I visit are all pretty subject oriented.

It's a strange phenomenon really. You would think that an atheist community would be talking about all kinds of different subjects other than God, Jesus, religion, or the Bible. But I've found that it's exactly the opposite. In fact every topic has a religious subject title or in the few instances where it's not, the replies within take on a religious tone. Oh, it's mostly bashing, mocking, snickering, and other such emotional outbursts. But still, the discussion never strays very far from the primary focus; God.

Atheists seem to be obsessed with God. They can't seem to stop talking about Him. Even in their ridicule and bitterness they seem to be reassuring one another that their mantra has been validated and God thusly shooed away. Even a science post about a new discovery prompts replies about Creationists or Genesis; why Jesus didn't mention it or how the believers will react. An atheist forum doesn't seem complete without special sections for General Religion, Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and Other Religions. Atheists are obsessed with God.

Why is that?

Danny

Must be because we know Him in our hearts, but deny Him in order to live out our sinful lifestyles.

That is the answer you're looking for? Right?

No, you're a hit-and-run-one-post troll. You'll never respond to this. You'll never come back.

So please--lock this thread so we won't have 50 pages of responses to an easily-spotted troll.

I don't talk much about religion in my everyday life. I only talk about it on these forums, because it's my only outreach to similar people. Most people I know are theists, so I can't discuss my beliefs with them without ending in unnecessary conflict. These forums are a place where closeted atheists like me can vent.

Why are alot of us obsessed with gods (I use gods because your "GOD" does not hold any special relevance above Zeus, Thor, and the Great Juju under the Mountain) is because we live in a country where Christianity and religion is shoved down our throats 24/7.

We see it on the news, we see it on the web, we see it every time we walk out our damned doors, and quite frankly, its...to be blunt... fucking annoying. (I at least) am generally discriminated againt, ignored, put down, etc. etc. for my beliefs that my old religion (Xanity) was wrong.

When it comes to science, the reason we always relate it to gods is that its hillarious you can stay faithful to your bullox when the evidence is stacked against it.

Answer some of your questions?

I actually agree with the OP's assumption in a sense. Some atheists really like to talk about the illogical nature of the concept of "God" or gods.

Though the main reason for this isn't because atheists really know God exists but wish to sin instead; that's a crock of shit and the OP knows it. The whole reason that certain people really like to talk about God is that neither side can ever have a definite, 100% infallible proof. In my opinion, the possibility of the existence of God is at about .000000000000000001%, but for some people, that just isn't definitive enough. I'm not taking a side on the issue because ultimately, it really doesn't matter, but I think that the whole process of disproving a concept of God is more important to some than actually coming to a conclusion.

PS: It's also really fun to screw with Christian trolls who don't know the first thing about science or the laws of nature.

You also have to remember that this is the atheist forums. The members decided to join to speak about atheism and why they deny the possibility of gods. If they just wanted to talk about movies and stuff going on in their lives, they'd just join a regular forum.

we talk about way more than just god. but considering it is the one thing that we havent in common, not believing that is, of course we are going to discuss it. Its one of the only things that the majority of us agree on. everything else we completely disagree on. we attack and ridicule each other statements thats what we are here for not to hear you preach.

ya bitch!!!!

Hi Danny,

First let me say that I'm only speaking for myself.
Sometimes I've addressed a question only to be
made the spokesperson for whatever group I am in.

My parents, in-laws, etc. are mostly Christians.
I'm surrounded by them.
I hear their point of view constantly.
Not just from them.
I hear it on the radio.
On television.
In newspapers.
Heck even in the subways.

So I come here to hear a different point of view.

Also.

Many of the people I mentioned above try to get me back into fold from time to time.
So we get into debates.
I come here to keep my sword sharp so to speak.
I find that if I don't keep immersed in Biblical matters I get rusty.
And I have to admit that I get a great deal of pleasure
shutting up some self righteous busybody with
my knowledge of the Bible and its history.

So many of the brothers and sisters in Christ
have never really read the Bible.
Nor do they know where it comes from.

Just in case you were wondering.
I really really don't believe in a god of any kind.
Really.
And I'll compare my morality to the typical Christian any day

What are you needing to vent about? What's your beef with God? or is it religion, church etc...

My family is getting more fundamentalist and crazy every day. My aunt and uncle put devices on my cousins' TVs to prevent them from hearing curse words. They won't let them watch any movie with anything contradicting to Christianity. I was so glad that my parents weren't like them until about a year ago when my dad went from a "back-slidden" Christian to a fundamentalist. My whole family and peer group believe things that I believe make no sense. It gets really irritating to hear things like that and not be allowed to disagree.
