Another raspy-ass voice I like that's been ruined (or improved?) by substance use (I presume) is Leonard Cohen.

You know, like Waits Leonard Cohen writes great songs. Did you ever hear Jeff Buckley's cover of "Hallelujah"? The Rick Copleland saw Buckley perform the song in in a local bar... Stunning shit... Man, that guy could sing...

You're wrong here...Waits' voice only ges better...

Cohen was a published and acclaimed poet first. His lyrics have what most lack, effort...

Some people can't get past the Waits's grainy voice. It took me some time to get used to but now I find it entirely appropriate. A lot of people despise the voice of Neil Young as at the least out of tune. It's on purpose and on target.

Another guy with a 3-dimensional voice (as I think of it) is Peter Gabriel. He also writes some great songs.

I resent the question. I'm the only heathen that I know about here. The rest of them are atheists.

(One of the best String Quartet songs, I think)

Anyway - yeah. I used to be much more into rock, but I've mellowed out much more and developed a taste for the classical side of things.

Rock, heavy metal etc But I like stuff like Rob Dougan and Sigur Ros as well. My favorite bands are The Red Hot Chilis, The Killers, Foo Fighters and the almighty Muse Cool

At the moment I'm really into Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros
