Well, yesterday was a bit interesting for me. Only my parents know about my atheism, but we were having lunch with my parents, my sister, and my grandparents. Some interesting situations arose...

To begin, my far-right grandma spent a large part of her time criticizing the Jews and tossing stereotypes left and right. I was close to reminding her of the Jesus thing, but my mom stepped in and did so.

Dear grandma also tried to recall the story of Jesus being left/forgotten/staying at the temple, and my sister remarked that "that's kinda mean for the Bible". She's young and hasn't read much of it, so I sort of understand, but it came across as humorous to me.

And thirdly, my sister got some of those little capsules that pop sponges out when you put them into water. I told my mom how I remembered when I first figured out how they worked and I felt cheated. Her response was that as you get older, you find that all the magic has a logical explanation. If I weren't so tired I would have furthered that line of discussion, but she already knows and it wasn't really the right time...

You and your parents having lunch with (drumroll) your parents. Interresting indeed. How was this accomplished?

Laughing

as you get older, you find that all the magic has a logical explanation.

And according to her, Jesus the miracle-maker is perfectly logical. I think it's a plus that you refrained. Not that you aren't proud that you don't believe, but out of respect for others' beliefs. That's hard to do for "us". Honorable when you can!

Me too!

I don't envy you spending too much time with a bigot. SUCKS that the bigot is family. I live too far from my family for lunches or dinners like that, but I do get the phone calls that hint at being afraid to call me on Easter or Christmas to wish me a happy whatever. I always laugh....we proudly & gladly celebrate just like you do, only minus the bullshit! I can't imagine having to stomach those outings which is probably why I moved so far away.

Grandparents, I meant. Deep south, far-right grandparents.
