It's a forum. It's not some uber fair or utopian society. If someone is being an idiot and using the threads to demonstrate it, seems to me it's a pretty easy process: cause too much disruption, expect to get your toy taken away.
There's a lot of entertainment value in people that can't actually discuss a controversial topic without getting pissy because people disagree with them. But after a point, it's nice to have a rule that says "STFU." |

the occasional fuck or insult should be expected in everyday life and on this forum. I dont think theyre should be a "rule" or "ban" because of it.
Remember the things you type are real words to some people and may trigger a very human reaction. I dont think the people displaying this human reaction should be punished. Only trolls should be banned not people engaging in heated conversations!! Its your choice to read, veiw, even reply if you dont like someone ignore them thats what that options for. And i have never seen anyone directly "threaten anyone here!"

You're right GRS, I just think it's unfortunate this forum gives those people a safe haven. I thought this forum was a community for "freethinkers", not "Internet Tough Guys". Then again I am new, so I guess I'm just adjusting to the situation. I am questioning whether I should put myself through the "adjustment" period or move on to greener pastures however. I am not trying to "threaten" anyone with this, just speaking my mind on the subject. |

It's not at a single party. Most of us have borne the brunt of the attacks to which you refer. The person(s) you refer to are incapable of speaking otherwise. They probably speak that way to their mother, so there is no need to take it personally.
What you need to do, Gnosis, is to understand that what is being directed at you has been directed to hundreds of others on this board and will be at hundreds more in the future. It is not something for you to take personally or to heart. You're only recourse is to avoid conversing with the people in question and ignoring them when they take it upon themselves to offer unsolicited commentary to your posts.
I would also suggest not even bringing up the subject as this debate often leads to even harder feelings than the acts which precipitated it. Speaking only for myself, I'm done going to war (ironically versus friends) over such hijinks and those who perform them.

I think this thread is a perfect example of how people can respectfully disagree on just about any subject and maintain a level of "free thought" or "free speech" without becoming excessively insulting (or "threatening") about said disagreement.
And even though some of us do disagree, I want to extend my thanks to those who have responded to the thread with their opinions.

i disagree with excessive language being covered under the no threats rule,
i like this forum because of its lack of rules, i also think that people are to obsessed with words, who really cares if someone swears on this forum, if you have a problem theres an ignore button
besides if we cant get a no trolling rule, then i very much doubt you will be able to get this rule through
