Ok, for the purposes of this thread, let's assume the Christian god is more than just a tired superstition/scam. It just makes things easier.
Heaven seems like a horrible place. For serious. It seems like endless, white-bread banality, where nothing ever happens. And not only that, most of the people who end up there are fascist, intolerant pricks who I wouldn't want to spend five minutes with, let alone eternity. Including big G-d himself. Frankly, it seems more like sedation than true happiness; which probably explains why it seems to appealing to Christians, since it lets them turn off their brains once and for all.
Now, flip the coin. Hell, where all us sinners invariably end up, right? Now, I'm not big into fire and torment and such... but come on, you're there for eternity. You get used to it eventually. After that, you get to spend for-freakin'-ever with some of the greatest people to ever live. Frank Zappa, Carl Sagan, Bill Gates, Lance Armstrong, Robert A. Heinlein, David Suzuki, Douglas Adams, Isaac Asimov, George Carlin, the list goes on and on. And the best part is, you're as far away from Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson as possible!
So, anyway, I'm not entirely sure why I'm posting this... just something I've been thinking about. What does AF think about it? Anyone agree with me that the Christian idea of heaven and hell seems somewhat backwards? _________________

Yep, even when I was still a good catholic, I always thought there would be more interesting people in hell. _________________

Yep. I actually like to go even further and actually show how God and his group are factually immoral fuckheads... then show that moral people typically go to hell.
Than ask why satan would leave a fascist fucked up heaven... because of a disagreement with god... to go to a new place to torture others who also disagree with god? That doesnt make sense... really he'd just become chummy...
Than show how satan actually hasnt killed many people at all. Especially relative to god.
So really Hell is actually a great place that has some really bad propaganda going around against it. _________________ A cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his fleshand drink his blood; while telepathically tell him you accept him as your master so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

True that. Judging the spiritual world - there isn't one, but whatever - based on a book written from only one side of the ping-pong table is like judging the Third Reich on what's said in Mein Kampf- oh shit, does that count as Godwin's Law? _________________

ok first thing you need to understand... is that godwin's law is complete bullshit. The real fallacy is argumentum ad Hitlerum. If you aren't commit that fallacy... than your point about hitler is more or less going to be a valid point. So godwins law is absolutely meaningless. At best all it can actually be an observation... that as internet dicussion go on and on... the more likely you are to reach Hitler popping his head in. Yet in reality you can actually make the same observation for many things... when you are speaking about fascism or hatred or whatever... Hitler is the big example of it... if you are talking about stupid politicians who lie... George bush comes to mind... if you are talking about rich guys... bill gates... Godwins law however doesn't mean that the discussion is over or something because of that...

I wonder what one is allowed to do with 72 or 73 virgins? And afterward, do you really want 73 women? I mean, it would take a few days to bang all of em, but then what? Do you have to talk to them? Sheesh, this the most serious of all questions now. What does one do with that many bitches? _________________ Its not that I question so much whether a god created man, but that he would admit it.- Thomas Brumfield
